The Falcons, who have icon pretty good opportunists this ear. started the same way Friday apitalizing on a Cougar fumble o start the scoring and after geting a second touchdown on a sustained drive, let their own mistakes cost them the game. The loss was onh the second m seven games tor Glenn but w as also their second in conference play in four outings, thus eliminating any chance of a tie or outright championship. The Cougars remained perfect in conference play at 2-0 and this was their fourth win in seven starts playing a much stronger schedule. After receiving the kick, they failed to make a first down and Paul Groves punted to the Cougars on their own 21. After picking up four yards on the first play, an Andy Mills pitchout was fumbled and Mark Izdepski recovered for the Falcons at the New Prairie 13. On the first play, a Cougar illegal procedure call boosted the ball up five yards and after Len Jaske lost a yard, he almost carried in on second down, hitting the chalk line out of bounds just prior to the end zone marker. Paul Groves then followed his center in on a quaterback sneak and after he kicked the point, it was Glenn 7. New Panne 0 with just 4:12 gone in the game. The Falcons took possession again after a Cougar punt as the sisitors hadn't shown any offense at all and couldn't gain any yards. middle of the drive. Briggs carried it over from one yard out and Paul Groves again booted the ball through the uprights for a 14-0 lead, 2:52 still remaining in the first period. Another big Falcon break came about quickly but this time they were unable to take advantage of it. Following a short kick. New Prairie fumbled on second down as Bob Garouttc dropped the pigskin and Jaske picked it up and romped 44 yards with the ball before being caught and gave Glenn a first and 10 at the Cougar 18. Jaske got 11 on the first carry, making it first and goal from the 7 only to have a handoff to Briggs not make contact on the second play and the Cougars alertly recovered to stop the threat at the nine. The New Prairie group then collected their initial first downs of the night, getting two before punting to Glenn at their own 15. Another drive got started and was making some real progress at midfield mainly on a 26 yard sprint by David Groves, when a holding call shoved the Falcons back and eventually forced them to punt. The Cougars had possession on their own 31 and fumbled on the first play. Izdepski again being the Falcon to recover the loose ball. However, a big loss attempting to pass forced a punt on fourth down and the Cougars took possession once again with about half the quarter left, on their own 13 yard line. This didn't pose any immediate problems, but the Falcons inability to take advantage of a couple of real breaks and the visitors stopping of Glenn, swung the momentum around and the Blue and Gold started a sustained drive at this point that went forever. Sprinkling in two 23 yard pass completions with some now hard running by Garoutte and Roger Simon and two key scrambles by quarterback Mills, the Cougars relentlessly ground out the 87 yards and the touchdown with Garoutte popping over from the 3 with just 57 seconds left in the half. In all it was 15 plays, 87 yards and quite a show of power by New Prairie. A missed extra point kept the lead at 14-6, but by this time everything had changed and it became very obvious in the second half. New Prairie took the opening kick of the second half and started another sustained drive from their 37 yard line. This time it took 12 plays, all on the ground except a key swing pass to Garoutte on which the speedster was hit several times behind the line of scrimmage but with his ability, managed to turn it into al6 yard gain. I his set up the three yard scoring run by Simon that cut the lead to two. An incomplete pass left it 14-12. but the tide had turned and the

Cougars were just dominating play. Glenn got good field position after the kick as Briggs lugged it to their own 39 to start the play from scrimmage. On a third down play, Jaske had passed the 10 yard chains, looking as if Glenn would start a drive, but fumbled when he was hit and the alert New Prairie team recovered right at midfield. From here it was the lightning play after Simon gamed one yard when Garoutte took the handoff, used his talents and blockers real well and raced 49 yards for the score. Another missed kick boosted the lead to 18-14 but more important, Glenn had only had the ball for eight plays since midway in the second quarter while the Cougars had put it in play 30 times. The mistakes were costing the Falcons and a 15 yarder on the kickoff took Glenn right out of field position shoving them back to their own 22 to start the drive. This time they did manage to get two first downs before a holding call again set them back 15 yards. On the second play after that another Jaske fumble was covered by the Cougars as the leading Falcon runner was running well, but not tucking the ball in and this hard hitting team forced the turnovers. A couple of possession changes followed before the final scoring was done as the Cougars took possession well into their own territory early in the final period following a Paul Groves punt. However, a third down screen pass to Cal Kulasa from Mills was aimed at gaining a first down ... it did, 69 yards of it as the open field play resulted in the Cougars fourth touchdown of the night on one of those plays where no one could get him down. A frantic chase by Dick Bogard at the end of the play found the chase in vain and this was the icing on the cake for New Prairie. Their only successful kick of the night followed and they moved to a safe 25-14 lead with 8:31 left to play. Glenn did start a drive after the kick, picking up three first downs, one on a face mask call against the Cougars, but an interception by Mike Garoutte stopped this at the Falcon 29 and he raced 37 yards with the ball before being caught from behind. This was basically all they needed despite the fact they did intercept one more time to stop any late thoughts the Falcons mivht have had. The game ended

with New Prairie on the Falcon 8. but all they were doing was keeping possession and using up the clock. The lack of passing hurt the Falcons in this loss. They have basically been a running team this year and the passing game never has been a strong part of the offense. However, it was sorely needed here and just not present as usually their passing game is a surprise element off the running attack and really successful. Playing catch-up football, passing is of prime importance and is no surprise to the defense, thus very unsuccessful in this game. The Cougars were paced by Bob Garouttc and Roger Simon with the former getting 119 yards in 24 carries and Simon 105 in 22 tries. Andy Mills also had a couple of timely runs and passed for all the Cougar yards. Jaske picked up 112 yards in 19 carries for Glenn but this wasn't enough in this tough game.
