AUTUMN IS AMONG US /X unique tradition in the midwest during October and early Novmeber is the celebration of “Indian Summer.’’ It is during this time of year that low humidity, warm days and cool nights combine to transform the rich, green colors of summer to the vibrant hues of autumn. It is indeed a time of year for Sunday afternoon drives, quiet walks in the country or just a time to recall those hazy memories of personal glories. Autumn in Indiana brings to mind many scenes. In mid-October the entire state is ablaze with color and one of the best routes to follow is Indiana State Road 46 through colorful Brown County. Cliffy Falls State Park on the Ohio River also will be beautiful during the fall and can be reached using Indiana State Road 56. The Park County area is another excellent attraction during the fall with many picturesque covered bridges dotting the landscape, reminding travelers of another era when life moved along more slowly. But right here at home the countryside is beautiful for all to see. Take a trip out in the country and enjoy the beauty of it all. Autumn in the midwest is a wonderful time of year, but when you are beginning a fall color expedition you must remember that the right combination of cool weather and low humidity are the all-important factors in making the countryside ablaze with the wonders of the palette of Jack Frost.
