Blocked Punt Costs Shamrocks Tough 6-0 Loss Defense was the whole ball game as the North Liberty Shamrocks invaded Jimtown Friday night, both teams sporting a clean 2-0 record in the young season. When the firing was done, it was obvious that it was all defensive fireworks as even the defense of the perennial Northern State Conference powerhouse Jimtown team won 6-0 on a touchdown scored by their defense. The loss was the first for North Liberty and was their first conference game. Ilie Jimmies increased their league record to 2-0 as they had previously defeated Fairfield in conference competition. game's lone score. An unsuccessful conversion attempt meant nothing as no more points were to be put on the board and the 6-0 lead gained with 8:23 remaining in the second quarter was all that was needed. Both teams shared the plaudits for defense as the total yards gained by each club in this game was about like a slow quarter total should be. Mistakes were common, but these too were forced by the strong defense. In all the Shamrocks lost the ball three times on pass interceptions while the Jimmies turned it over three times, twice on fumbles and once on an interception. Add too this numerous times the offenses were thrown for losses by the opposing defensive units and you have the makings of one of the least offensive dominated football games you will ever see.
