A surprise popped out of Mrs. Mathilda Lange’s mailbox on Thursday, September 9, when she | ( x)ked in it. A birthday card from pie White House, signed by both president and Mrs. Gerald Ford, aas found. Mrs. Lange is a tenant in the lovely 76 Apartments complex, Illinois Street, and she will be 87 on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Lawrence spent several days last week touring northern Michigan. Mrs. Percy (Edith) Selkirk will return to her Koontz Lake home on Friday for a two week visit with tnends and then close her home for the winter. With Mrs. Selkirk will be her daughters, Mae Runquist, Downers Grove, Illinois, and Mrs. F Jacquess, Royal Oaks, Michigan. Walkerton friends were delighted to greet Mr. and Mrs. George Parks, of Commerce, Texas, when they spent Friday calling on a few t their many friends in the area. I hey left on Saturday morning. John Garab accompanied his two brothers on a fishing trip to northern Michigan several days this past week. Mrs. Newton Williams will have a girlhood chum, Mrs. Phil Herderson, of Indianapolis, stay as a week end guest. Mrs. Orland Raether, of Howell, Michigan, and Mrs. Russell Smith. Koontz Lake, returned home on Sunday from a trip through Colorado and Wyoming seeing all the wonderful scenery in those states md making a short visit in Boulder. ( olorado. with a close friend.

Mr. and Mrs. William Erzig will serve as hosts for the Saturday evening carry-in dinner of the Koontz Lake Conservation Club in the club house. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Baker and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Baker and family were Sunday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Baker and family in Bremen. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Shinn, of Hanna, and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Shinn were in Elkhart on Sunday to visit with the gentlemen's aunt, Mrs. Jessie Scott and Mrs. Ruth Phend. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Kofoie and two daughters, of Fort Wayne, were week end guests with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Daley. Koontz Lake. Mrs. Clara Shultz has been moved from the LaPorte Hospital to Fountain View Terrace, in LaPorte. Liz Krick is enrolled at Ball State University and her address is Rogers Hall, Box 38, Muncie, Indiana 47306. Mrs. Charles Bandendistel and daughter, Mrs. Margaret Finkle, had as their guests on Friday. Mrs. Bandendistel's nephew, Mr. and Mrs. George Laker and their son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Roman Laker, of Paulding, Ohio. It has been about 48 years since they met last. Nephew George is only three years younger than Mrs. Bandendistel and he is a retired farmer. It was enjoyable to talk about old times. Mr. and Mrs. Wade L. Stillson have returned to their home in Clearwater. Florida, after spending two weeks visiting his brother, the

Glen Stillsons, in Cassopolis, Michigan; also his mother. Mrs. Georgia Stillson, and other relatives and friends here and in Nappanee. Also Mrs. Stillson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Brugh and her brother. Elmer Brugh, South Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Moffett, of South Bend, spent Saturday with Rev. Goodpasture at his Koontz Lake home. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Weller and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Kendall, of Granger, spent Sunday in Chicago sightseeing. On their return trip home they stopped at Crown Point and visited with the Weller's daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. William Barden and Monica. Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Radmacher, of Tucson, Arizona, are spending a couple of weeks here with his mother, Mrs. Jacie Radmacher. On Wednesday Mrs. Radmacher’s sister, Miss Dora Faith, of Laconia. Indiana, came to join the group and will be here for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Dwain Whitmer and sons, North Liberty; Mrs. Carol Lee Epperson and two daughters, Jim Epperson and Miss Kimberly Wandall, of East Gary; Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Kaugman, of Fish Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Zigler and daughter, of Stillwell; Mrs. Nellie Zigler and Mrs. Helen Prokel, of LaPorte; Mr. and Mrs. Amos Bierly, Mr. and Mrs. William Bierly, Mrs. Esther Kaugman and Mrs. Dwight McKesson were all at the home of Mr. Arthur Zigler on Sunday, in LaPorte, to celebrate his birthday which was on Saturday, September 11. A table filled with food and a large birthday cake was enjoyed at four o'clock in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Truaz, of Little Town, Colorado, were here visiting with his sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Kepcha. On Sunday Rev. and Mrs. Joseph Truax, of Vicksburg, Michigan, were also guests of the Kepchas.

The 23 anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Rensberger, of Roann, was celebrated last week with a six o'clock dinner at Montana Charlie’s Restaurant in Walkerton. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Rensberger and Jeffie, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rensberger, Mr. and Mrs. David Rensberger, Mrs. Betty Scott and Joe Milber, South Bend. Recent dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Baughman and Phil were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Freeman, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Stump, Sebring, Florida; and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kieser, Puerto Rico. Afternoon guests were Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Claudia, Cleveland, Ohio, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Halt, North Liberty. Mrs. Charles Bandendistel and Mrs. Robert E. Finkle accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bandendistel. of Fish Lake, to spend Monday in celebration of Mrs. Harry (Alice) Duffey’s birthday with the Harry Duffeysjn Mishawaka. Mrs. Eugene Hewitt, of Southbury, Connecticut, came last week and has been a guest in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Henry and has been visiting with other friends around the Walkerton area. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Henry were hosts for an outdoor picnic with 40 guests present. Guests were from Churubusco, Hamlet and Walkerton. K of C Installs New Officers St. Patrick's Council 5709 held its installation of officers for the coming year on Thursday evening, September 9 with Glen Smudde, District Deputy, in charge of the ceremony. MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETS The Wesleyan Missionary Society met at the home of Mrs. Lvel Calvert, in Tyner, on Monday, at 9:30 a.m. The meeting was opened by the president. Mrs. Velma Shores. After prayer and business session the lesson was presented with several taking part. Lovely refrehments were served by the hostess.
