The Epsilon Chi Chapter of Tri Kappa donated a B-66 Omega black and white photo enlarger to the art department at John Glenn High School to be used by both the art department and the graphic art department in teaching photography in the school. Mr. John Thomas, art teacher at the high school, is shown accepting the enlarger from Mrs. Don Aschliman, past president of Tri Kapa. He would like to express his appreciation to all Tri Kappa members. Enroll In Search Before November Ist College scholarships of SSOO to $5,000 are available to high school seniors through the General Mills Search for Leadership in Family Living, now in its 23rd year. Invitations to enroll in the program have been mailed to high schools across the nation. Schools new to the program can write the General Mills Search, P. O. Box 1113, Minneapolis, Miss. 55440, for information. The 1976 winner of the top $5,000 scholarship is a boy, the first in the history of the Search. He is Dan McVicar, Bloomfield. Colorado. participating school will administer a 50-minute written examination. Prepared and scored by Science Research Associates, Inc., Chicago, this general knowledge and attitude examination is the first important step of the scholarship program. From the examination results a General Mills Family Leader of Tomorrow will be chosen for each participating school. School winners arc acknowledged with special awards and their examinations are entered in state competition. Each State Family Leader of Tomorrow receives a $1,500 college scholarship while every state second place winner receives a SSOO grant. State winners also earn for their school a 20-volume reference work, "The Annals of America,” from Encyclopedia Britannica Educational Corporation. State winners will be the guests of General Mills next spring on an expense-paid tour of Williamsburg. Virginia, and Washington, D.C. A special event of the tour is announcement of the All-American Family Leader of Tomorrow, whose scholarship is increased to $5,000. Second, third and fourth place national winners receive scholarship increases to $4,000, $3,000 and $2,000 respectively. The General Mills Search, known as the Betty Crocker Search for its first 22 years, is on the advisory list of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. UW Sets September 28 For Kick-Off Preparations are underway for the sixth-second annual United Way campaign kick-off. according to Paula Stott, volunteer chairman for special events of the communications committee. Plans call for a September 28 kick-off to be held at the studios of WSBT-TV. A continental breakfast provided by McDonald's and entertainment will highlight the half hour live telecast. The program will be shown on a delaved basis on WNDU. WSJV and WNIT. Roland Kelly, vice president of marketing for St. Joseph Bank and Trust Company will serve as master of ceremonies. Three high schixil singing groups from South Bend. Mishawaka and New Carlisle will perform. Further details are pending. Reservations are required and limited to 275 persons. The general campaign will be conducted from September 28 to October 28. 1976. UNCOLN TWP. CLUB MEETS The Lincoln Township Homemakers Extension Club met on Tuesday, September 7 at the Community Building with 19 members and one guest repeating the salute to the flag and the club creed. Roll call was answered by recalling our favorite teacher. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The birthday song was sung to Esther Dearing and the anniversary song was sung to Dorothy Walsh. The Christmas workshop is set for October 5 in South Bend. Next months committee will include Mrs. Dorothy Knowlton. Mrs. Leia Ruby, Mrs. Elizabeth Hess and Mrs. Mamie Mackin. I here will be cancer sewing next Wednesday. Falcon B-Team Wins Over Fairfield 24-8 The John Glenn Falcon B-team football players hosted Fairfield on Monday with the John Glenn Falcons winning 24-8. In the first quarter a 90 yard run by Jeff Stratford breaking through the middle of the line resulted in the first John Glenn score. Blocks were thrown by Conrad Kriskovsky and Bob Armentrout helping with the score. Also a two point conversion making the score 8-0, John Glenn Falcons. The second quarter ended with John Glenn on the Fairfield one yard line. Al Bogard opened the third quarter scoring with a three-yard run for the TD and a two point conversion was added by Greg Brovoid.. In the final quarter Mike Shenenberger scored by cutting around the left end on a 17 yard run with a two point conversion added by Al Bogard. Near the end of the game Fairfield intercepted a pass at mid field and ran it back to near the goal line and scored on a three yard run. Gift Giving Idea — Send The "Independent-News”.
A SPECIAL APPEAL The Walkerton Public Library is extending a special appeal for all your old books and magazines so that they can in turn give these to ALSA 2 for the Regional Juvenile Correction Project in South Bend, funded by and serving the same four counties (St. Joseph. Kosciusko, Marshall and Elkhart) as ALSA 2, in attempting to supplement its educational program with a learning resource center. I he project is responsible for the evaluation of youths, male and female. between the ages of 12 and I' who while at the project must continue their education. Because of budget problems, the materials in the resource center arc minimal. Material being asked for include encyclopedias, atlases, dictionaries, other reference books geared to school level in all areas, National Geographic magazines, juvenile b<x)ks of all kinds, adult fiction and non-fiction, current and not-so-cur-rent copies of periodicals, automobile books and magazines and posters. All books and materials received here will be examined and evaluated for use in the project and then taken to the ALSA 2 office in Nappanee. Agriquotes . . .
