Falcons Edge Bremen 13-7 In Overtime An 8 yard run by John Briggs on the Falcons' second play in overtime. gave the John Glenn team a very desired 13-7 victory over Bremen Friday night. This marks the first win for Glenn over the Lions, who although not a conference opponent. are a team the Falcons really wanted after two very late heartbreaking losses in the past two seasons. The overtime win almost found the Lions coming back to pull their “late miracle" again as the visitors scored with just 31 seconds to go in the game and on coach Don Bunge's decision to go for the more sure extra point instead of the gamble of two, the overtime was forced. Bremen had appeared to take the momentum late in the game as the six play 53 yard drive after taking

possession with 1:28 left had to be a bitter thing for the Falcons to swallow. But coach John Hostrawser got his team back "up" for the extra period and not only did they get the score in two plays, but the defense had first stopped the Lions and forced a desperation 31 yard field goal attempt that was just wide right. The Lions were victims of their own mistakes to a degree in their overtime offensive effort as two motion penalties, one coming on an attempted field goal from 26 yards away, cost them some dear yards. Then after Glenn took over, a fumbled pitchout for a three yard loss was followed by another Bremen 5 yard walkoff for encroachment and that set up the winning sprint through the middle by senior fullback Briggs. A fumble on the punt return was covered by Wade Hall and the Lions had a first and 10 on the Falcon 21 yard line. An 18 yard scamper on the first play by Dennis Forte, made it first and goal on the 3. Three plunges into the line first gained one yard, lost a yard and then gained one, to make it fourth and goal from the 2. An apparent successful sneak by the quarterback resulted in a fumble and Ed Beasley covered the ball in the end zone for Glenn, stopping the drive. Glenn then managed to control the ball for a while getting it out of their territory on a nine play, two first down drive before they punted. Five changes of possession later with just 2:26 left in the half, the Falcons put the ball in play first and 10 on their own 31 yard line. Successive runs of 5,9, 7,8, 6 and 10 gained three first downs and moved the ball rapidly down field for a first and 10 at the Bremen 24 with 1:16 left in the half. An incomplete pass was followed by a four yard scamper by Len Jaske and then a fake left and little swing pass right to Jaske out of the backfield found the Falcon senior getting free with nothing but turf between him and the goal line. Paul Groves, who flipped the scoring pass to Jaske. then booted the extra point for a 7-0 lead with just 29 seconds left in the half. The game stayed this way until the late score by Bremen tied it up.

but Bremen did take some kind of control of the game after an initial drive by Glenn gained a couple of first downs. Late in the quarter they took possession following a Falcon punt on their own 19 and really started to grind out the yardage. A 14 play drive with one Glenn 5 yard penalty, found the all running attack moving the ball deep into Falcon territory, only to lose it on downs at the 15. The Falcons then sustained a drive of their own. using a g<x>d ground game to move from the 15 to the Bremen 38 on where a third and one resulted. It appeared they were safe the way they were grinding it out. but a three yard loss here on a fine defenisve plav by the Lions and then a wide sweep lost six more yards, gave Bremen the ball first and 10 at the Glenn 47 with the 1:28 left to play. Dan Swain went to work throw ing the ball for Bremen, not hitting the panic button and throwing long, but inside a semi-prevent Falcon defense to pick up steady yards. He first hit Greg Taylor for 12 and then Mike Molebash for 11. He then ran for 10 and after an incomplete pass, hit his brother Mike Swain with a 6 yarder and then the 14 yard pass over the middle pulled in very nicely by Taylor for the touchdown with :31 seconds left. Dan Swain then drilled the extra point through, forcing the overtime period. The Scoring JOHN GLENN: Len Jaske, 20 yard pass from Paul Groves; PAT: Paul Groves, kick BREMEN: Greg Taylor. 14 yard
