The exciting moment arrived when the top five were announced: fifth runner-up was Mary Meda Flora from Country Side Place, Knox, with her escort Bill Kramer; fourth runner-up was Pearl Szymanski of Valeview , Valporaiso, with her escort Bill Bennett; third runner-up was Lieuella Laramore of Walkerton Nursing Home with her escort Pete Relos and second runner-up was Gladys Helsel of Pilgrim Manor, Plymouth with her escort Jonathen Larson. The queen was Effie DeQuoy from Prairie View Rest Home, Warsaw, with her escort Earl Gray. The oldest contestant was Lieuella Laramore. Walkerton, at 98. A glittering crown was placed on the queen's head, a red satin robe placed around her shoulders and a bouquet of red roses were placed in her arms. She was truly a regal queen. Entertainment between interviews was by a dance team from South Bend, the "Primettes," and by Mr. John Sienicki, Mishawaka. who played an accordian, organ combination. The affair was a definite success, due to the cooperation and efforts of club members, Lionettes, Lion’s wives, plus residents of the community. according to Brenner, chairman. Lionette Dorothea Brenner coordinated the acquisition and preparation of the food and drinks. Funds derived from the project
will be used to build a storage unr and screens for the park pavilion. The activity marked the first did use of the new kitchen cabinet^ built by Lion Evar Peterson and th< stainless double sink donated h. Paul Kjelstrom.
