Kankakee Valley All Star Game Set For June 11 The fourth annual Kankakee Valley All Star Basketball Classic is scheduled for Friday, June 11 at 8:00 p.m. at the Winamac High School. Sponsors of the contest are the Winamac Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs. Graduating seniors from 12 area high schools will participate. The South squad is composed of Scott Terpstra, Kankakee Valley; Dave Briney, Kewanna; Keith Theis and Dave Wallace, North Judson; Gilbert Crimmins, Denny Hines and Tim Keiser, Pioneer; Dean Cervanka, Tim Tanner and Jerry Van Buskirk. West Central; Jeff Beach and Mike Howe, Winamac. The North squad is composed of Steve Mixis and Bill Werner, South Central; Matt McKay, OregonDavis; Tom Wozniak. Doug Keuhn and Mike Hucker, LaCrosse; Doug Corey, Knox; Bob Gerber, John Glenn; Don Zehner, Mark Wamsley and Bob Thomas, Culver. Howard Leedy, Pioneer, and Don Workman, West Central, will coach the South squad, while Jim Samuel Knox, and Jim Black, Oregon-Dav-is, will coach the North squad. The contest will feature the 3point field goal. It will consist of four 10 minute quarters. An official ABA basketball will be used in the game. One senior cheerleader from each participating school will participate in the activities. At the end of the contest, a most valuable player will be selected by the press. Recreation Program Now On In Walkerton The Polk-Lincoln-Johnson summer recreation program began on Monday in Walkerton and will continue through July 29. During this time the Urey gym will be open from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. even’ day except Wednesday. Basketball, volleyball, softball, ping pong, kickball, tennis and badminton may be played on a first come, first served basis. In the evenings, from 6:00 to 8:00, the John Glenn gym will be open. The weight machine, wrestling mats, basketball fhxir and gymnastic equipment will be available for use. On Wednesdays a bus will travel to Plymouth's Centennial Park where students may swim or use the other park facilities. The bus ride is free. Use of the pool is SI.OO with the schedule as follows: Leave Urey at 12:30 p.m. Leave Tyner at 12:45 p.m. Arrive at Tyner 4:00 p.m. Arrive at Urey at 4:15 p.m. In case of rain, the bus will go on Thursday. ATTENTION P L-J BAND BOOSTERS On Tuesday, June 15 the Polk-Lincoln-Johnson band members will be able to pick up their uniforms. The schedule is as follows: Seniors, 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.; juniors, 10:00-11:00 a.m.; sophomores, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; freshmen. 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. is set aside for those who missed their proper time for pick-up. Composer To Conduct “I Love America” Cantata In Walkerton "...
Don Wyrtzen, co-composer of the patriotic musical, “1 Love America,” will serve as guest conductor of the performance to be given by four area church choirs at 7:30 p.m. June 12 at John Glenn High School, Walkerton. On Sunday, June 13, he will deliver the sermon at the 10:30 worship service at the Walkerton United Methodist Church. At 7:30 that evening he will present a concert of sacred music at the same church. Both events are open to the public. “It is a great honor for our community and our choirs to have Mr. Wyrtzen as our conductor,” Sharon Klinedinst, one of the “I Love American” soloists commented. Historical Display Don Wyrtzen To Scheduled For Deliver Sermon Saturday, July 3 And Concert
A historical display of items of yesteryear is being planned as a Bicentennial observance by Orville Easterdav Post 189 American Legion and its Auxiliary. I he post home will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. July 3 with an attendant on duty at all times. Mrs. Edward Klopfenstein is in charge of arrangements and reports she has many items of interest. but would like to have more historical collections for the show. Anyone wishing to participate should call either Mrs. Klopfenstein at 586-2137, Mrs. Allen Rushton at 586-2614. or Mrs. Robert Wardman at 586-3516. Mrs. Klopfenstein reports to date she has a collection of 50 posters, one for each state depicting its state flag, bird, flower, and other interesting facts such as the state agriculture and commerce. She suggests the display could use a collection of quilts from early America, Indian relics, or especially photographs from days past at Walkerton or its surrounding community. BIKE RALLY The North Liberty Drift Breakers are having their bike rally on Sunday, June 13 at 1:00 p.m. from the North Liberty Park. Pot luck picnic.

Rapids, Michigan. A composer, conductor, arranger and keyboard artist, he was listed by the Junior Chamber of Commerce as one of the outstanding young men in America in 1971. The performance will cap months of rehearsal for some 120 Walkerton area residents. Participants are members of choirs from the Koontz Lake Missionary Church, Tyner United Methodist Church, Walkerton First United Presbyterian Church and Walkerton United Methodist Church. The teen-age “Pass-It-On group also is part of the community chorus. Soloists will be Sharon Klinedinst. Jeanie Jimerson, Lois Ross, John Frame and Steve Cramer. Narrators include Dr. Robert Ross. Glenn Jacob, Pauline Varge and Ingrid Boisxe. No admission will be charged; however, an offering will be received to help cover expenses.

Gerber broke the two-mile run record at 10:14 from 10:23.3 at the Marshall County Meet on Tuesday. May 25. when he won the two-mile run. Civil Defense Unit To Be Organized Here The Walkerton Town Board is interested in reorganizing the C ivil Defense unit. Anyone who is in the immediate vicinity and over the age of 21 and is truly interested in the program, contact police chief. Clifford Ward, at the Walkerton Police Department. A school for new members will begin on June 16 at ' , :00 p.m. at the South Bend Police Department. Civil Defense will pay insurance and possibly in the future uniforms. P-L-J SCHOOL BOAPDNEWS Ihe Polk-Lincoln-Johnson School Board met in regular session on Tuesday, June 1. in the administration building. Superintendent Harold Muncie announced that the construction of the addition to the Walkerton Elementary School is progressing as planned. The consctruction will be completed in time for this fall’s classes. Mr. Richard Kickbush, principal of the Urey Middle School, has resigned his position effective June 14, 1976. Mr. Kickbush will be assigned a teaching position in the corporation for the coming school year. The Walkerton Superior Truck Sales will service the school buses for 1976-77. The next board meeting will be June 15. at 7:00 p.m. in the administration building. At this time sealed bids on the repair of the roofs at the Walkerton Elementary School and the Urey Middle School and the installation of an air conditioning unit at John Glenn High School will be opened by the board. Bicentennial Dress Contest In North Liberty A Bicentennial Dress Contest will be held Sunday. July 4. at 4:00 p.m. at the North Liberty Park There will be four trophies awarded.
