This was chosen to keep with the Bicentennial theme. Also, our club was five years old in January, so this was also a birthday party for us. A brief history of the club was written by Mrs. Audine Manuel. She reminded us of how our club was started and brought out many forgotten memories of our club’s activities. She also informed us that there are almost 120 snowmobiles in this area. 72 of them arc in our club. We also have 43 family memberships. 21 of them attended our banquet. Mr. David McKesson showed a short film of our club in action in Michigan this past year. This was a most interesting film as we have

several trick riders and stunt men in our club. Another film entitled, “Our Indiana.” was shown. This was a very colorful film on our state parks and what they have to offer in recreation in g<M>d old Indiana. Due to the fact that Steve Rolcwicz, our conservation officer was unable to attend, he was kind enough to loan us this film. W'e would like to thank Steve, and Roger Orcutt for running the projector. Our Punkin Picker Award went to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Knepp. We thank Ihe Package Store and Jackie Carroll, for donating the trophy. We would like to thank Larry Lent, the chef, and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Williams for the use of the Inn. and the fantastic dinner. LETTERS TO THE EIDTOR Dear Editor: I wonder how many people in our community have taken a walk down the alleys lately? Well you are in for the shock of your life! Garbage strewn all over the ground, an invitation for rats and all the stray cats and dogs. I here has been no effort to place bags in closed containers. Old broken down furniture, children's toys, car parts, old appliances. Rose papers are just a few of the things you will encounter on your tour. Old sheds and delapidated buildings are permitted to stand creating eye sores to the entire neighborh<xxl and community, not to mention a hazard for playing children. Substandard houses are being rent-

ed by owners who have no intentions of improving their properties. Consequently, the homeowner who is unfortunate enough to live next door to this sort of situation suffers a financial loss to the home he has maintained for many years. What can we do as citizens and taxpayers? Well, a g<x>d place to start would be to take a look and question the town ordinances to see what they contain, if anything. Have the ordinances been amended or updated to meet the needs of our community today? Have rental standards and building codes been included in the ordinances? Have regulations been made regarding litter and trash accumulating on existing properties within the city limits? I)(K“s the town have the authority to condemn and demolish houses and unsafe structures that do not comply with the safey and well being of human lives? If you are a concerned citizen and really want to make Walkerton a nicer place to live then attend the Town Board meetings and let your voice be heard. Are you willing to see that we do have a better form of city government and that the issues are fully implimcnted once a committment has been made? Come on folks, let's clean up the old as well as starting something new. Mickey Hunt and Other Concerned Citizens The little ads that bring big results — Our classified ads!
