Carl M. Eskridge 2tml3 GLENN DROPS SHAMROCKS IN TOURNEY GAME The John Glenn Falcons and North Libeitx Shai mocks squaded oft in f.rst round competition of the 1975 sectional that featured a little more than just the right to advance a round in tourney action. It was North Liberty who handed Gkmn one of three losses th.s season heading into the tourney and also their lone Noithcrn Stale Conference loss which enable the Shamrocks to share the crown with the Fai. cons. This put added desire on the side of Glenn as revenge is sweet aikl was an automatic surce of getting Glenn "up'' for th, game. After a very tight first sevi n and a half minutes, the Falcons put 10 straight mark, ers on the buard and the Sham, rocks went for 6'a minutes with only one bu'ket to break the con. test op. i. The pace tnen picked up with Heim and Buswell hit. tin m succession and Biair, Gerb. er Hunt and Heim traded baskets to make it Gler.n 36, N irfli Lib. erty 27 it the mam intermission. In the second half, Shamrock coach Jim Herter tried ddferent combinations to get them back in the game but John Hans' charges weren't to be demed this one. In the early third pediod the teams traded points but a five point spui t halfway through put Glenn up 13 and the quarter ended just about that way, 57-45. It got to be so much of a catch.up es. fort for the Shamrocks that shot selection and passing realiy be. came loose and it was just a mat. ter of time. Glenn's machine was rolling along and North Liberty's was xputteiing. The Falcons, as so often this year, got the ,nside strength going and seven of their eight last period laskets were lay ins with only Mike Clark's 10 footer cominug from the floor. The Falcons rebounding made the main difference as on off-n e plenty <f attempts w- ie offered and ;n all, 11 baskets were on sec. । -/I or more efforts. Th.s also put extra stress on the Shamrock defence as they weren't abb ‘ keep Glenn outside as they <pd in the first game The Falcon def'nsc did a go <| job of keeping North L.bcrty away from the basket and after they had a few attempts foiled, they almost quit trying to get the ball inside. In ali II of the 12 Falcons got in thi scoring column He m and B i-wi ll had 13 each and I’ome reach i double figures w.th 11 Hunt s 17 t pp d all players but only seven Shamrocks -cored with Blau • 12 the only other doubh figure total.
