FALCONS WIN 4TH GAME OF SEASON FRIDAY The John Glenn Falcons and New Prairie Cougars both struck like lightning Friday night but then settled down to the thunder of their defenses only to have the silver lining of the storm clouds break through in the form of a field goal as the Falcons captured a Northern State Conference win by a scant 9-6 mar. g.n The win, the fourth for the Falcons in seven starts, was the final home game of the season for Glenn, who with the win kept a faint hope alive for a title tie as they moved their conference mark to 2-2. Jimtown, with a 3-0 record has at least a tie in their pocket and play New Prairie and Glenn this Friday and on No. vember 1 respectively. His 79 yard return set up a four play drive that included an automatic first down on a crucial fourth down play as a Falcon pass re. ca.ver was held. It then was Just one running play for Mike Flaugher from the three and Glenn had a 6-0 lead after a kick was no good with only 2:26 gone In the game. However, that scoring lightning was ready to strike again and did on the first play from scrim, mage. The Falcon kick went out of bounds giv.ng the Cougars a first and 10 at their own 40. On the first play, a handoff to their super runner, Jim Gadacz, looked like an end sweep but he stopped and fired a pm point aerial to a wide open Jim Fisher who gather, ad it in and easily raced into the end sone. An incomplete pass on the try for two was no good and it was 6-6 with 9:23 still showing on the clock in the f.rst period Then ths defenses took over. Ttie Falcons had an excellent op. port unity late in the first per. iod following a John Bnggs inter, ception that returned the ball to the 29 for a first and 10. After getting a five yard proceedure call the Falcons gained a first down at the 16 following a 15 yard scamper by Hartsell, only to fumble two plays later and have New Prairie's Steve Engel recover. ' The Cougars then moved the bfdl deep into Falcon country, to the IS, before liming it on downs. After this drive, the rest of the first half was played between the two 35 yard lines keeping the 6 all tie at halftime. The second half was hard nose football and both teams used a grind it out ground attack for the yardage gained. The Cougars found themselves in a hole early as a bouncing kick was p.cked up by Gadacz at the 2 and re. turned only to the seven. How. ever, a 19 play drive with Gadacz

Glenn then ran three plays and punted and New Pra.r. ie did likewise, their punt coming on the first play of the final st an. za. From here, their own 31, the Falcons started an 18 play drive, all on the ground except for one incomplete pass, and the crucial fourth and goal from the three which coach John Howstrawser choose to kick. And what a lack It was! Not hav.ng kicked a point all year, this field goal, from the right hash mark off the toe of Paul Groves was long and true and the Fai. cons had troken the tie with an even 3:00 left on the clock. Glenn then kicked to the Cou. gars, turned it over to their de. tense and stopped any chances with a Mitch Pearish pass inter, cept.nn. They then, with the aid of one.first down, were able to inn out the clock for the 9-6 win.
