John Glenn Homecoming Friday Night The John Glenn Falcon football homecoming game is this Friday evening, September 27, when the Triton Trojans come to town. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. At halftime of the game the fans will be entertained by the band and the crowning of the 1974 Football Homecoming Queen. Queen candidates are Sue Rush, junior class; Sheri Farrar, freshman class; Patty Miller, FFA; Jill Northam, band; Vickie Caji k, Sunshine; Norma Zahrn, Art Club; Kathy Kersh, senior class; Cindy Kunkle, sophomore class; and Donna Brown. Pom-Pom girls. One of these nominees will be chosen to reign. Following the game the Honor Society has the honor of sponsoring the dance with the "Catch" land to piny untd midnight. JOHN GLENN AND NORTH LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS The John Glenn eaicons tennis team will have plenty of action this week wlwn they meet at Cui. ver at 4:15 for matches and on Saturday, September 2S is the Conference meet at Jimtown. On Monday, September 30, they will have matches again with Culver here in Walkerton at 4:00 pm. and the end of the season is the sectional scheduled for October 3. Girl’s volleyball at John Glenn has three games this week with Thursday, September 26 at 4:30 p.m. starting action when they travel to Oregon-Davis. Football action on Friday ev. enlng, September 27 at 7:30 pm. the 1974 Homecoming game will be played here in Walkerton with Triton as the opponents. Cross country meets are scheduled for Saturday, September 28 with the Falcons participating In the Weatville Invitational at 11:00 a.m. and another meet on October 3 when they will travel to the Plymouth Country Club for the Marshall County Crojw Country meet. The North Libelty Shamrocks Football team will travel on Fri. day evening. September 27, to Knox for a varsity game. NORTH LIBERTY BOARD NEWS The Town Board of North Liberty met on Wednesday evening of last week at the town hall and were informed by the president of tile board, John Peddycord, that the town will appeal to the State Tax Board in Indianapd.is to have the tax rate of $3.77 on each SIOO assessed valuation reconsidered. He also noted that the $2.60 frozen tax rate of 1972 will not te sufficient. Also in reviewing me proposed rate jump of $1.17, a large item is th change of water use costs of water hydrants that cost SII,OOO and this amount is not roduceable. It is hoped that this increase will be approved in the appeal to the state board. Clem Wozniak applied for the position of town's water superin. tendent and his application wa ; accepted. He will attend special evening classes from September 27 through October 10 with North Liberty defraying tuition costs • for technical training. He presently is on the town police force and will also remain a police officer until another officer can be hired and then he will continue on the force on a rehef basis. Engineer Mel Boise, of Knepp an<l Yates, requested a change order to use a fiberglass tureen instead of the metal specified for a well currently under construe, tion. He said that the fiberglass is supposed to be more effective with wells containing minerals m the water .such as that in North Liberty. Another change order which has not been approved is the use of a 42 inch hole anti a 16 inch casing with gravel pack instead of specification of a 36 inch hole and 20 inch casing and 16 inch casing with gravel pack. Cancer Program For Community October 3 The American I-egion Auxil.ary of Orville Easterday Unit 189 will present a cancer program on Trursday, October 3, at 8:00 pm. at the Post Home. The program will relate entirely to female type cancers, and will be presented under the direction of the American Cancer Society of St. Joseph County. Tlie Cancer Society w.ll present two films entitled "Breast Self. Examination" and "For A Won. derful Life ” The latter film is regarding uterine cancer and is narrated by television personal!, ties Lucille Ball and Virginia Graham. The two films and discussion period are open to any adult in the community. It should also be stressed that this program would be of great interest to mothers and their teenage daughters. Cancer can — and does — strike at any age and teing informed now, may save a life! All Aux.liary members are reminded that this program will precis’d the regular Unit meeting and it Is hoped you can rvmam for the business session. WALKERTON TOWN BOAW The Walkerton Town Board met in regular session on Tuesday evening, September 17 and were informed that the street contract, or f.rm of Walsh and Kelly, Inc., is in the process of performing work on various streets in the corporate limits of the town that wrie designated for a phalt sealing during the current season.
