It was obvious from the start that th.- w:i n’t the same team t>] 3 ) .id p. '.fi rmed in the fir-d tv, , v lines i- the mental m .* ide v . y, . I that the team appear, d ; u Add to .1 a very wet Held and p’.ay wis ko e and as tifn- s ju-d wry poor. It was ob. vious that the offense was "down" a- they just couldn’t move the ball with any consistency, lost four fumbles and had one pass intercepted in addition to punting x limes. The chances were thete but the "killer" attitude and drive wasn’t. After a short kickoff, the de. f-n e held Fail field but the pattern for the Falrons was set. A punt wa- followed by a major penalty putting the Falcons on tlv i' own I. On first down, a f nnhlc was lost and Fairf.eld had a g !den opportunity. However, the Glenn defense rose to the oc- ( i < n as they did all night but every time they got the ball for the offense, they sputtered and couldn’t move. Three times during tne game the Falcons seemed to get going picking up two or three f rst downs together, tut a late first half drive sputtered and turned the ball over on downs and tw:ce in the second half fumbles were lost to stop drives. When the overtime situation arose. Fairfield had the first of. fensive chance and the Glenn de. sense shoved the mstraight backwards on their four plays. Then it was Glenn’s turn. Mike Flaugner gained three on the first play

from the 10. threw an incomplete pass and then Tom Bolze gained 2, making it fourth and 5,' but on a field goal attempt the snap from center wasn't handled and Tom Hall ended up losing IS yards in a sciambling attempt with me loose bail. On the second overtime period, Glenn put the ball in play first and four straight incomplete passes meant nothing. Fairfield had three gainers of 5,1 and 2 but on fourth down tried a field goal that was no good. In the third extra four-play period, a 1 yard run by Brian Snider, an 8 yard carry by Todd Gross and the final yard by Snider gave the Fairfield team the first score of the game. I hen came the all important extra pi int kick by Doug Kauffman for the 7-0 lead. On Glenn’s four downs, Flaugher hit Hall for 9 on the first play and then it took three carries by Flaugher tefote he finally slid off a pile up into the end zone. The attempt for two extra points to win failed as Flaugher couldn’t find an open receiver and finally was downed at about the eight yard hne to end the game. In the brief two year history of overtime playoffs, this was Glenn's second loss in two tries while Fairfield has been in three and won them all.
