ATTENTION JOHN GLENN FOOTBALLERS All boys planning to participate in lootball at John Glenn should see Mr. Howstrawser to pick-up physical slips at their earliest opp irtunity. Non-contact drills for both varsity and Jr. varsity can. didates will begin Monday, Aug. ust 12 at 8:00 a.m. All players are invited to the Hostrawsers for a cook out at noon that same day. Full scale workouts will begin August 15. The varsity will practice from 8:00 am. to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. All junior varsity candidates will practice from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Each prospect must hand in a physical slip before he may participate. The season will open with the LaVille Jamb »ree on August 24 and the first game will be at home on August 30 against Bremen. ENTERTAINMENT AT THE INDIANA STATE FAIR The Indiana State Eairgrounds in Indianapolis is the scene again this year for Indiana s biggest annual fair. Although this year's fair runs for 11 days. August 15. 25, the celebration actually be. gins Saturday, August 10, with the Western Horae Show in the Coliseum which offers free admission for the opening day ac. tivities. Special Indiana State Fair Shows this year will be held in the Coliseum and include: Aug. 16 — 7:30 p.m., The Red Skelton Show Aug. 17 — 4 and 8 p.m., The Lawrence Welk Show Aug. 18 4 and 8 p.m., The Charlie Rich Show' Aug. 20 — 3 and 7 pm., Aug. 21 1:30 and 7:30 p.m., Aug. 22 and 23 3 and 7:30 p.m.. Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. with the Steiner Championship Rodeo Aug. 24 4 and 8 p.m., The Rich Little Show with Olivia New ton-John Aug. 25 — 3 and 7 p.m., The Liza Minelii Show Harness racing also plays an important role at the Imbann State Fair. This year races will be held in the Grandstand area August 22, 1 and 7:30 p.m.. and Aug. 23 and 24, 1 p.m. Motorcycles have been added to this year’s state fair with the AMA Championship races acheduled for 7:00 p.m.. August 24. Practice and qualifications legin at 5:30 p.m. in the Grandstand area. Auto racing ha.* a vole at each Indiana State K’air and this year August 25 is the date for the State Fair Century’ USAC 100 Mile New Car Championship. Practice and qualification runs begin at noon, while the race be. gins at 2:00 p.m. Another highlight of the State Fair will be the Indiana high school band contest This year this event will be held on Aug. ust 21 beginning at 9:00 am. The top 16 bands from the morning aeaaiun will return for the finals at 7:30 p.m. that same day. More than 100 Indiana bands are expected to compete for top huu. ors this year.
