RIGHT Tl RN ON RED IN INDIANA -Il LY 1 Indiana State Highway Commission Executive Diiector. Roger F. Marsh, announced detailed investigation undi i Indiana State Highway Commission jurisdiction his been completed. This inves--1 gat nn precedes legi iatiun effect.vo on July 1 allowing right tmn -m h- I at inteisectivrs where such a tin n is not m hibdcd. The b g slutii n. Puolic Law No. 82, permits light turns on red aftt i stopping unless specifically posted that no turn can be made. The right turn w.ll lx- restricted only if vision is impaired in such away as to make a right turn dangerous, if opposite traffic has a left turn arrow or if the pe. destrian and veh.cular traffic is s<> heavy as to make it dangerous. The State Highway Commission Chief of the Division of Traffic, Clinton Venable, says signs have already been ordered to prohibit r.ght turns. The black and white signs will le placed as close to the traffic signal as pos-.ble to draw the driver attcnt.on to the prohibition. Venable wants to remind drivers that laws vary from state to state and when in other states drivers should be sure of the law before turning on the red light. According to Marsh, the law stresses caution and drivers are reminded that the right turn on red after stop is only permitted when cross traffic allows, Thi is n<>t a right but a iiiwilege t save the driver time and gas. The driver must be ic-p -nsible a ... must yield to on-coming traffic. Unless prohibited by a sign drivers afl<, July 1 may maki right turns at sgnahzed intersections after makmg a complete stop and checking to be sure the s are clear of other vehicleand pedestrians. Some left turn< are allowed — when turning from the left of a one-way street to another one-way street. The signs saying right turr permitted after stop will be re. moved prior to July 1. These signs have been in use severa years, but under the new legislation are unnecessary. DrGel RELIEVES 'Gasid Indirx'S^on* ...it’s thoseii.r.ts you suffer acid indigestion ar d painful gas, too.
