NEW YORK (ED) —Most of us can’t spend hours relaxing in a hot tub. but we do have ten minutes to spare for a quick cleaning ritual. And, you needn’t apologize for being a shower fan. The shower has its own mystique . . . why hot hop under the faucet and find out for yourself ?
f First, the essential rules: A bathmat or runners should line the tub floor. Keep your beauty equipment within easy reach, so you don’t have to grope for soap with water in your eyes. I A k' ' ' 7 / /

1974 A-. Wet and Weedy? Some Ways To Combat It In Soybeans .1 *’ -7 *:•' I*-'!! ' *o^ lliis field oi \iuh M.ijmski. Plymouth. lona, n.r hit v.ith Ui inches of rain just before planting his sos hears, anil nith another 4’j inches Mwn after. He sprajed a natcr-iasolublc pre-emerge herbicide in between and came through with relatisel} dean fields.
1 After last ^pi ing’s soggy fields, just about every fanner around here is keeping a sharp eye on the sky. Will it be another one of those wet springs that are heaven for weeds in soybeans? 1 If you can believe the long Tange weather forecasts, last year’s weed problems may come back to haunt us. Weed pressure increases in wet, cool Weather. Foxtail, jimsonweed, .xsild mustard and other weeds go to town. There is no way you can beat Vecds completely during a wet .spring. But there are some things you can do that can help. If it is too wet, you may not have a chance to apply a preplant • herbicide. And even if you do, the herbicide's effectiveness may be reduced. One way to fight back is earlier and more mechanical cultivation. - Another is to apply a preCmergencc herbicide. But here, you have to be careful Some pre-emergence herbicides are Vater soluble. I hey mo\e with musing water. '1 hey may leach downward in soil and damage soybean seedling.
To mak* a shower terrific, trado j n your old washcloth «nd invest in a natural spo.ige — they’re much nicer than the supermarket variety. After the shower, treat yourself to a 60-second beauty »>ftening with Sardoettes—the towelettes saturated with bath oil. Your skin needs lubricating—and this is the fastest way to replace essential oils. Experiment? It’s easy to add atmosphere to that;brisk rubdown. Place a big plastic pillow in the tub, turn on the shower and let the rain pour down. You’ll feel like an Indian maiden sitting under a waterfall . . . and the rushing water will help unkink tense muscles. Another alternative: The Turkish Delight. So be sure to use a preemerge herbicide that stays where you apply it Soycx is a herbicide which is particularly effective when soil gets soggy. It is a broad-specliuni material which provides weed control comparable to pre-plant ihcmicals. It is highly water insoluble. So it is less likely to leach down and harm soybean seedlings or leach away ^nd reduce weed control. . Andy Majewski. Plymouth, lowa, knows how it work?. Tn 1973, he had 1! i inches of rain just before planting. A week after planting, he was hit by 4’» inches of ram. Between rains, he sprayed Soy ex on part of his bean fields. Ihe herbicide held in there, and the fields ho sprayed were relatively clean. Lnsprayed fields were ‘ solid foxtail." lo sum it up, one herbicide may nut be enough in a wet spiing. I specially if it tends to leach. Whether or not you are able to put on a pre-plant hcrbicide, consider applying a highly water insoluble pro* emerge AnJ. if weeds begin to show, be prepared to vultimate.
