WALKERTON TO ANNEX TEN ACRE TRACT The Walkerton Town Board met on February 19 and accepted & voluntary petition lor annexa. t.on of approximately 10 acres r< rth of Walkerton on State Road 2” with the petition from B. F. Williams and James and Lorraine Mercer. The petition! rs were certified as owning 66 per cent of the .n. v< Ived real estate and 35 per < ent of the assessed valuation of the area in the petition. Signs for traffic lanes leading into town were not changed by the state after the area south of Walkerton was an. nexed some time ago, it was not. ed. Board members pointed out that the town's corporate limits to the south also need to be moved to the indicated boundary line of the highway. The street department was anthorized to remove "no parking” signs on the south side of the 7dU and MM) blocks of Harrison Street. New Speed Limit To Go Into Effect March 1 Gov. Ot 4 s R. Bowen signed into law the 55 mile per hour sp‘ed limit bill on Friday. February 15 and warned all drivers should be ready to comply when it becomeeffective on March 1. There will be no grace period to allow mo. toi ids to adjust to the lower Emits. The law would be effective until July 1. 1975. coinciding with the federal act, or until the en- ( gy crisis eased and the federal law rep.'tied. Signs will be posted by Feb. ruary 23 with the new speed limit.
