FOR JOHN GLENN FRIDAY night -S that b.g game The regular season me-* ng between the Falcons and La Ville has much going for it. It has the Northern St ite C inference title riding on it and a lot more. PLAYING FOR THE TITLE cf the NSC is enough but Glenn has a little more than that to prove. F.rst, a hard to take loss 1 i LaVi’le in ‘he Ri-C unty when the Falcon' apparently had the g ime undid c :tr d. This had t be a bitter one t take due to the fact most considered this the game to decidt the tourney. THEN THFRE IS THE SEAson as a whole. Many people figured this would be a long season for Glenn after losing their tandem of Dayhuff and Hamess. However, it shouldn’t be so surprising with two full time start, ers from last year back, the first guard reserve and a B Team that compiled a 14-6 record feeding a lot (f balance and ability to the varsity However, that spectacular star, th it ability to quickly blow a game wide c pen. the fabub us sh ting the 1972-73 team canid give wa gone. This came in the 1971-72 season with the thrilling capture of the Winamac Holiday Tourney and the Bi-County title. Finally the t.me had arrived when it ■•hurt" to lose. Then lust year’s team, again the Winamac Holiday Tourney winner and compilers of an overall 21-3 record added to this tradition. THEN CAME THE CURRENT season A different kind of look, a different kind of style but the same results. An open.ng loss
and 12 straight wins before being dropped in the Bi-County. A big game lost. Last year the upset by New Prairie in the Bi-County’ finals, another b.g game lost. z\ stunn.ng late defeat by Plymouth in the Sectional after Glenn controlled much of the play, another big game 10-t. N< w comes the biggest one of the 1973-74 season. THE FALCONS HAVE TAKen the floor 17 times this season, come off a victor 15 times and after the tragic news of forfeiture sport a 10-7 recoid although a winner 15 times. This may have had some mental effect regardless of how hard you try to erase it from your mind. The appearances since the forfeit news have left a lot to be desired. In fact, often this season play has been very mediocre but the wins still come. It .s not Glenn’s fault, but the schedule this year features a- 1 ttle ba-ket all talent as any seen in a kng time. able experience and improvement wise than losing the larger better schools with the stronger schedules. This is the one hammer LaVille holds, competition against better schools. WHETHER OR NOT A PER. son wants to admit .t. the Falcons have had lady luck on their side this year. No less than six or seven games, could have gone the other way with one break in the right spot. Luck runs in streaks and this year it has been on the Falcons side. A team makes a lot of breaks and the hustl.ng Falcon team has done this, however, a loose ball being grabbed hy a Shamrock is defeat in the Liberty game; a free throw in the final seconds at Knox, a loss there; a goixl pass instead of a cross court one at Caston, a loss there, these are bre iks in Ghnn’s favor.
