FALCON RALLY PASSES BREMEN 56-51 SATURDAY The combination of Mike Clark coming off the bench to give a falter offense some scoring and Bremen's foul trouble, gave the John Glenn Falcons their second win of the season Saturday night as they invaded the Lions Den in Bremen and came home with a 56-51 victory. Although it wasn't a "pretty" victory from the finesse standpoint, it was a I ig onfur coach John Hans’ basically inexperienced team as they battled back from a 10 point halftime deficit. Lacking that big performance the Glenn fans got at cirdonud too in recent years, they make up for it with hustle, defense and some breaks they force despite the fact this style of play produce.-, some real sloppy basketball with the more mexjKTirnct d players. The first quarter was ( lose aL though errors and cold shooting prevailed. The Lions got first blood but two baskets by senior Randy Zartman and then five points later by Derek Schultz, a returning starter of last year, kept the Lion lead to only a single point, 12-11 after one period. Tommy Hall, a player wno certainly makes things happen, put the Falcons on top 13-12 after a little over a minute had pass* d, but Bremen then rattled six consecutive points on two baskets by seady Glen Border and a couple of single free throws. Schultz broke the string with two chanty tosses but Bremen again got four quickies and this pattern prevail, ed Die rest of the half as the Lions led 33-23 at the main inter, mission. Their big problem was however, 16 first half fouls and no less than five players with 3 at this time. Bremen grabbed their biggest had of the mght right after the second half started. Lee Angie. myer hit a short hook, but Hall came back with a driving lay in on which Border was charged with a blocking foul, his fourth. Hall converted the three point play but more important, with less than a minute gone in the second half the main Bremen of. fensive threat was on the bench with four fouls. As play pro. greased very poorly, Biemm lost four starters with four fouls and only the Falcons lack of ability to score kept them from passing the Lions who just had no of. sense at all due to the foul trouble. 'Phe Falcons did manage a 12 punt total to the Lions 7 to head into the final jx-rmd behind by just five. 40.35. The fourth quarter play improved greatly with the Bremen starters back in action. Schultz hit a lay in to op-n it but Dm Kipfer ca-shed in two one punters At 6:56 Bonier was whistled for number five on a rebound attempt and Mike Clark connected on the pair. KipJ>r scored from the left comer, but Zartman tallied a nice 9 footer Clark then drilled one from the line and with momentum now increasing, he hit a 17 footer the next time down the flixw for the Falcons' first lead since the early second quarter, 45-44 Jack Huamann re. gained the Bremen lead with a baseline shot but Greg Gillies got a 7 footer from a bad angle for Glenn With play now’ getting more deliljerate in an effort to get good shots, the scoring slowed down. A pair of free throws at the 2:54 mark, on Hall’s fifth foul, put Hausmann at the line and he got both ends for a Bremen 4S-47

Gillies made it a four point lead with 1:54 left on one of two foul shots, but Bremen’s final pants, a rebound lay in by Anglemyer at the 1:10 mark, was followed by Falcon free throws to set tile final score of 56-51. Schultz. Zartman and Clark were the Falcons in double figures with 13, 12 and 10 respectively. Steve Manges and Border paced the losers wuth 11 and 10, all gathered in the first half. NORTH LIBERTY TOPPLES AKRON 76-68 SATURDAY North Libeity's Lhamrocks g t good balance and two hot quarters to droj) th- Aki n Flyers for the first time this year by a 76-6 S sun- Saturday. The game was played on the Shamrocks home floor and bo >sted them above the even mark for the year, 3-2. The Flyers, a small school power for several years, in this last year as Akron as they will join with M-ntone forming a new school next season, are now 4-1. Akron ha> long played a run and shoot type of game in which they will give up a lot of points in .scoring a lot of points. The contest never was a "slow" type game with delilx-iation -n getting the job done. The Flyers want to move and make things happen and they did in this contest. The Fuit n C'- ir.’A visitors got going early and afcr one pen- I of action had g dned a 20-15 mar. gm over the ShamKxks. 1 his was short l.v d as the Given and White had a few fireworks of ther own that really took control of things in the second quarter. They <ait.>cored the Flyers 23-12 to jump to a good 3X-32 lead The diference in the attack was the help the usually steady Chris Grnsingt r was getting tha w isn’t present most of this year. The Flyers came back strong in the third quarter with a real all out effort that did b th good and bad. In regaining the lead their helter, skelter type play, they also were continuing to gel some key p i sonni in foul pn’blems The Shanin* ks saw their advantage slip to a 54-52 Akron lead after three periods. The • ven quarters were the tig ones for the Shamiix ks and an ouLstandmg final stanza, aided by Akron s losing three players on fouls, found the Stumrocks not only regaining the lead, but building a safe margin of victory. Gensmg 1 ended the night w.th 22 to top the Shamrixks as he had eight baskets and six from the charity line. Mike Walls and Kurt Hunt each totaled 19 on eight im-kets and three from the line while Dave Sheak-, crashed in the double figures with. 10 also. Tilden ti j>p- d the F lyers and the game ci>mbatants with 23 before fouling out. He had 21 point supp-rt from D.ttman, these bemg the only Flyers in double fig. UleS.
