SHAMROCKS TOP KNOX 53-52 IN FINAL MINUTE The N< -h Liberty ShamnKks made it two in a row Friday as a Chris Gensingei bisk* t with a half minute t > play gave the Shanin cks the lead and than the last second heroics of Knox’s Redskins failed to connect as a shot and scramble for a hxrse ball being tipped around failed to conn><t insuring the Shamrock win. The game was close all the way and an exciting and g< od win for the Sham: >cks. Knox is now 0-2 for the year. The Shamrocks g lined a small advantage in the urst period as tin v pulled ahead of the vis.tors from Starke C anty by a 15-12 advantage. The lead wis only slightly increased in the second pern d and a 32-27 had was taken to the dressing room at halftime, with the Sham." ks sh wing some eontrol of the game in this half. The second hah found the iontest tightening up as the Redskins got right back in the thick of it. Play lacked finesse and despite the type of action, the excitment remained due to the closeness of the score. By the end of the third period, a poor seven point performance by the Shamrocks, had enabled the Redskins to tie the score at 39 all. It remained rip and tuck the re^t of the way. The scoring wasn't fast, but tight and it ail was de< ided m the thrilling last 30 seconds. Gensinger led all scorers with a 24 point p rfermance. He had 10 baskets a d four from the 15 foot line. Chi is Weiss hit 10 for the only other Shamrock player in double figure'. Tim Ro-, k tot./ed 21 t t* r- trie !■ .^ers and he was the ne wh > Ttempted the potential winning i asket h r Die lose: s. The Shamrocks had won two games, both played early in the same week. The Shamrocks, despite a slow see ring start, stayed with the Satellites in the first half. A comparatively low 12-8 margin in the first light minutes was enjoyed by the host team, but in the second stanza the Shamrocks began to click and cutscored their i pp.ments 19-12 to take charge by three, 27-24 at the main intcrmissen. The second half found several factors going against North Liberty. Speed is not one of their Hmng points and combined with a hard w* < k of thre? contests in five da\s. the Shamrocks began to crack a little as the Satellites came < ut with a pressing defense and fa-t hr iking styk < f often e. The Shamrocks were paced by a fine 24 point performance by Ch. is Gensmger and able assi -t of 16 by Kurt Hunt. However, balance behind this was not as gr< at as that of the LaPorte County five as they had five players in double figures headed by Bill i Werner's is points. Shinn added 16.
