John Glenn Drops Opener To Bremen The John Glenn Falcons, after an impressive, but frustrating first half of football, were solidly outplayed in the second half by Bi emen to drop a 26-0 season opt ner. The game was played at Bremen on an extremely hot and hum d night for football. Plays 41 The Falcons c< ntrolled the first half with the exception of one play and that was the difference in the ball game. After kicking to Brem n and holding them m check. Glenn took possession the first time on their own 32 yard line and started a march. Gordon Hartsell carried the first four times for 51 combined yards and thie? first downs but a five yard motion penalty from the Bremen 25 had made it first and 15. After Hartsell’s fourth carry, 3 consecutive one yard gainers turned the ball back to Br men on their 19. Once again they were unable to move and a punt gave Glenn excellent field position on tiie Bremen 42. Hartsell hit for 7. Bob Wilson 4 and Tom Bolze 3 iefore a Greg Gillies to Hartsell pass gained 5 more. Bolze hit tit middle for 3 and a first down on the 20. A one yard punge and ami 8 yard Gill! s to Tom Hall pass was fol. lowed by a 3 yard sneak by Gillies for a first and goal from the s as the first quarter ended. Two cracks in the middle by Bi b Cole mow d it to the 2 but a third down play lost a yard and in g ttirg the kf\ fourth and 3 play going, the Falcons used too much time for a costly five yards. Gillies attempted a pass, but was (reamed on the play and dropped the ball with Bremen’s Kirk Ri. di*.r alertly pick.ng it up behind the Falcon team an<t racing 85 yards for a touchdown. The ex. tra p int wa< kicked by Joel Worthington and despite Glenns domination, Bremen led 7-0 with 9:51 left in the first half. D- spite the score, the Falcons continued to apply the pressure on the Bremen defense. Putting the hall in play from their own 43 after the kakoff. Gillies hit Hall with and 18 yard gainer and then Wilson for 6 yards. Hartsell gained another first down with a 5 yard carry and a scries of mns got the ball down to the 3 only to have the possession charge on downs less than a yard short. A fumbh by Bremen was covered by th? middle of the Falcon T?no for possession on the 8, tut an illegal procedure call cost five yards and after a couple of plays a holding call cost Glenn 15 more yards, it all resulted in a fit Id goal try hv Gene Hockett from the 27. a 37 yard boot, that was just short. Again a Br-men fumble gave Glenn po.ssession but time was running out and the Falcons couldn't score. By halftune th Falcons had a complete domination of the statistics as they had gained 150 yards to Bremen's 12 ran 37 of. tensive plays to Bn men's 13 but trailed 7-0.
