Align t 8, 1968 During Friday night's electrical a large dairy barn on the . >n Burke property, five miles east of Walkerton, was struck by lightning, causing a fire which completely destroyed the barn. Dean Klopfenstein manage- the farm and was in the barn with Russell Pencil, a Mishawaka bulk tank driver, when the lightning struck. Both men were thrown down by the bolt, but not injured. M. R. Nelson, 52, Bannockerburn. 111., was pulled from Koontz Lake uncon-clous Saturday evening around 5:34) by an unidentified man after a swimming accident. He was taken to shore where the Koontz Lake Fire Department resuscitator squad was credited with saving the man's life. August 14, 1958 The Speed Benders Saddle Club will have a championship rodeo and Western contest show at the Hub grounds at Koontz Lake this Sunday. An item in the proposed budget specifically asks for $6,000 to be used for the purchase of ground on which to place the building. Pfc. Robert A. Next week another real cowboy western, "Red Desert.” Aupust 12, 1948 The board of Town Trustees, North Liberty, successfully passed the first hurdle in their plan to improve the streets of the town. This first step was the securing of signatures on petitions to set the plan into motion. The petition asked the trustees to issue bonds in an amount not to exceed $*,000.00 to provide funds to pay the cost of resurfacing and otherwise improving certain streets. As soon as the bonds have been sold the work will begin. Seven streets in Walkerton received a treatment of resurfacing last week by the United Bituirun< us Materials Co., of Westville. The present supply of meter boxes used by West York homes to house th? electrical meters has been exhausted, according to Foster Rearick, city electrician. Jimmy, 10 year old son of Mr. and Mr.\ Charles Bolze, surprised the Koontz Lake fisherm n and himself this week when he landed a four and three-quarters pound baas at Kramer’s beach. Align t 12. 1948 The annual 4-H Club Fair will close at Lakeville tonight with the auction sale of the prize beef cattle. This event has come to be the grand climax of the three day fair and is attended by large crowd- of people from all over the country. A semi-surprise district blackout covering 12 counties in northwest Indiana and including St. Joseph, LaPorte and Marshall Counties was planned at a meeting of civilian defense officials of these counties with the civilian protection officers of the State Defense Council in LaPorte today.
