Mrs. Fred Polk, of Portage, was a visitor the past week for several days with Mrs. M. L. Johnson, at Koontz Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Cripe, of Commerce, Texas, were here for four days last week visiting with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cripe Jr. and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Jay Downs and Janise. Rev. and Mrs. John Goodpasture were in Anderson a few days last week to visit their daughter and family, Mrs. Alice Ann Griffith. On the return trip home they stopped in Jamestown where Mrs. Goodpasture was reared and were special guests at a smorgasbord supper given by the Methodist Church that she attended and where she was so happy to meet and visit with a lot of former friends of the church and of her school days. Saturday evening guests of Mrs. Roy Miller were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Burroughs, of Plymouth, and Mrs. Ruth Eastland, of Nappanee. On Sunday she entertained guests from Mulberry, Indiana, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Conner. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Houser are expecting their daughter on Saturday, October 21, to arrive in Walkerton from San Diego, California. Mrs. Nancy Hasse will be vacationing here for a week. Mr. and Mrs. William Noblitt, of Evansville, were last week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Houser. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wilson, of Mexico, Indiana, were week end visitors with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Jacobs and family. On Sunday the group accompanied Kevin Jacobs to Indianapolis where he is enrolled in school at the Lincoln Technical Institute on Stadium Drive. Mr. and Mrs. R. Dwaine Whitmer came home on Sunday from a 10 day trip on a Westinghouse tour starting from Miami, Florida. They were on a Caribbean cruise with stops at Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Puerto Plata and Haitti. They were on the boat for eight days with nice weather except for one day when the weather was a little rough. Mrs. Glen Walz is home from the Osteopathic Hospital in South Bend and she is feeling real good. Mr. Walz is expected home some day this week. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Stahly were in Leesburg, Indiana, Sunday to spend the day with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Darman and daughter Judy. Monday night supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Minter and family were Mary Matthews, of Otis, Indiana, and Mr. and Mrs. John Petro, of Michigan City. Mrs. Petro is the former Sally Myers and she has lately received ' her Masters degree from Indiana University NW and is presently 1 teaching at Barker School, Michigan City. Mr. and Mrs. William Elkin and Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne Pavey have returned home from a trip to the islands of Aruba and Curocao in the Netherland An--1 titles. These islands are located just off the coast of Venezula, ' South America. They enjoyed 1 seeing the sites, shopping and learning about the customs and ; people of both islands. Art DeMyer has been admitted i to Pine Lake Division Hospital in LaPorte. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thompson and family, of Joliet, 111., and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Swihart and family, of Twin Lakes, along with Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Skinner were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hostetler and family. The group enjoyed a cook out but the weather was warm enough to make it even more pleasant. Miss Ethel Bierly and her friend Mrs. Gladys Gilfoy, of North Judson, left last Friday and visited Mrs. Evelyn Shaw in Clinton, then on Saturday they went to the Covered Bridge Festival. Since they had taken the tours before this year, they went to Billie Creek Village where they have restored some of the old buildings where they make applebutter, brooms and other items, visited the blacksmith shop and other interesting places. Mrs. Lawrence Groshans was taken to the Walkerton Nursing Home from the LaPorte Hospital where she had been tor some time as a result of a fall in which she sustained a broken hip. Week end guests of Rev. and Mrs. Robert Bowman were Mr. and Mrs. Mason Bowman, of Pittsburgh, Pa.. Mi. and Mrs. Charles Holtz and family of Menasha, Wise., Mrs. Herbert Holtz, of Appleton, Wise., and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cane, of Evanston, 111. Most of the group were here for the installation service for Rev. Bowman held at the Presbyterian Church Sunday evening. A surprise birthday dinner was given on Sunday for Mrs. Edith Ullery, of LaPorte, by the members of her family and held in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Montgomery and daughter, Sharon. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schaeffer, Mr. and Mrs. Kerry Reed and family, Bremen, Miss Joan Ullery, LaPorte, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Bussie, Ronnie Bussie, Walter Knowlton, all of Fish Lake, and Steve Maybauer, of LaPorte, were guests for the day with a pot luck dinner being enjoyed. SURPRISE SHOWER GIVEN A surprise bridal shower was given for Teresa DeSimone on Thursday evening of last week in the lounge of the Walkerton Nursing Home with 28 present. The shower was given by Mrs. Georgia Cripe and Carol English. The room was decorated in the fall colors of orange, bronze and ( white with corresponding colors of mum bouquets. Prizes were won by Helen Murphy, Teresa and Ruth DeSimone, Pat Saxton and Vickie Eddinger. COrNH LINE CLUB MEETS The County Line Club members gathered Munday evening at the home of Mrs. Fred Daniels. The moon was bright outside and the Halloween ’ecorations glowed inside for the right atmosphere of the evening. Mrs. Herald Hostetler Jr., assisted the hostess. Door prizes went to Mrs. Ted Hostetler and Mrs. Earl Taylor. Prizes also went to the ladies w cai ing the most color of orange and black. They were Mrs. Ted Question? It was voted to have the club Christmas exchange at the November meeting since we will not meet during the winter months. BETTER HOMES EXTENSION CLUB MEETS The Better Homes Extension Club met on September 25 at the Walkerton Community Building with 16 members and one guest in attendance. Mrs. Branson Hiatt gave a report on “Citizenship.” She also gave a very interesting report on “Twin Pines” and a talk on “Selection of Accessories.” Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Jo Dreessen and Mrs. Helen Kranenburg. Prizes were won by Mrs. Howard Clingenpeel and and Mrs. Ida Mae Watkins. The next meeting will be on Monday, October 23 with the members to bring scissors, transparent glue and small artificial flowers to the meeting. The rest of the material will be furnished. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carmean, of Walkerton are the parents of twin daughters bom on Friday, October 13, in Parkview Hospital, Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. Paul LaMarr Kronk are the parents of a baby girl bom Wednesday, October 18 at Parkview Hospital. She weighed in at seven pounds, 15 ounces. Girl Scout News* The first service unit meeting was held on the 10th of October in the Walkerton Lions Youth Building. Ten leaders and helpers were present. Mrs. Ray Chapman opened the meeting. Mrs. Edna Pfluger, Field Advisor for the Jo Marsh Association, was present. The purpose, promise and laws of Girl Scouting were discussed. Miss Mary Ellen Hission and Mrs. Rosemary Wolfe have volunteered to help as Troop Committee workers. The next meeting
