Mrs. Butch Lawience entertained for dinner on Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Swett, of Ludington, Michigan. Mrs. Agnew Ludwig came home Monday from a week’s stay in Indianapolis in the home of her sister, Mrs. Betty Jenkins and to help care for their mother, Mrs. Zelpha Watkins. Mrs. Watkins was taken to the hospital Monday of this week. Mi-, and Mrs. Marvin Stahly, Mi. and Mrs. Glen Stahly, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Spier and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Damon Nichols and family, of North Liberty were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Spier. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mis. Raymond Wolfe were Miss Connie Gaut, of North Liberty, Mr. and Mrs. John Wolfe and family and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Smith and son and James Wolfe whose birthday was being celebrated. Grant Houser, 900 Georgia St., Walkerton, is one of 96 students at Indiana University at South Bend who received a student teaching assignment for the fall semester. He will be teaching at Hay School. ’ Mr. and Mrs. William Lucius, of Tiffin, Ohio, spent the week end with MY. and Mrs. Gene Gerber and family and Mrs. Charles Hinz. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Wray, of Grapevine, Texas, are here spending their vacation and are staying with Mrs. Butch Lawrence and calling on other friends and relatives in the area. Mr. and* Mrs. Robert Wake and son Jonathan, of Washington, Indiana, and Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Barber, daughter Robin, were Saturday and Sunday guests of Rev. and Mrs. Clyde Wake. On Bunday, Rey. Wake had the pleasure of administering baptism to his new grandson Jonathan and Mr. and Mrs. Barber were sponsors for the occasion. Other guests for Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Jones, of Indianapolis.

Mr. and Mrs. David aietzger, Fred Byer, of Kewanna, Mrs. Anna Allen, of Winamac, and Mrs. Ruth Hughes, of South Bend, spent last Wednesday with Mrs. Bertha Urbin. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beaty and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hostetter returned last week from a trip to Oklahoma where the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Beaty is attending school at Oklahoma Tech. They attended the graduation exercises on Wednesday night. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Freeland, of Las Cruz, N. M. Last Sunday Mr. and Mrs. John McCombs entertained with a picnic dinner for the Past Matrons of the local O. E. S. Chapter. There were 27 present. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hostetter spent the week end in Bellefontaine, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Eddinger will leave Friday for their home in Williamsburg, Pa., after a month’s visit in the home of their son, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Eddinger and family. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Burch and Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Hathaway, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, spent the week end in Madison, Indiana. The carry in dinner for the Koontz Lake Conservation Club will be Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. in the club house with Mrs. Harry Webster and Mrs. Jane KukminsiU serving as hosts for the evening. The usual social hour will follow the dinner. Mr. and Mrs. James Gardner, of Cleveland, Ohio, were here Sunday to visit her aunt, Mrs. Vern Harden brook, who is in- the E Street Hospital, LaPorte, because of a fall in her home Thursday of last week. Last Thursday Mrs. James M6rrey, of Koontz Lake, entertained ’ following guests for a 12:30 o’clock luncheon, Mrs. Thomas Eckhoff, Mrs. Ed Petersen, Miss Dorothea Brenner, Mrs. Ellen Brede Mrs. Bertha Urbin, Mrs. Bess Ferverda and Mrs. William Bickson. The afternoon was spent playing bridge.
After a two and a half week visit in Denver, Colorado, with Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Gindelberger, Mrs. Bess Gindelberger returned I home on Wednesday by plane from a most enjoyable vacation. ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES UNDERWAY The Adult Education Classes being held at the John Glenn High School in the evenings are in progress. ! The Adult Recreation class for the first semester meets in the gym between 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. on Thursdays under the direction of Sandy Crowl. INDEPENDENT BASKETBALL The Walkerton Jaycees wish to announce the opening of the Walkerton Basketball League. Games will be played at the Urey Middle School on Wednesdays. The first practice session will be October 25, with regular season games beginning November 8. GIRLS ATTEND CAMP Sandie Bauss and Laura Carter, of John Glenn High School, and their sponsor, Miss Barbara Larson, received new and important information on the roll of girls competition when they attended the State G.A.A. Leadership camp, at Epworth Forest, North Webster, Indiana, Saturday, September 30. The primary purpose of the camp was to teach the new officers leadership techniques. Students and sponsors also attended a gymnastics clinic by Walt Lienert of Normal College, in Indiana, and a swimming clinic by Joanne Miditying, Aquatics Director of Ball State University. The evening program consisted of a Juditsu demonstration by Peter Terletzky, of Grand Rapids, Mich. The week end camp is sponsored annually by he Indiana League of High School Giris' Athletic Associatibn. Mr. and Mrs. Grover C. Howard, route 2, Walnut Road, Walkerten, will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, October 8, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. with an open house.
