North Liberty First Half Tops Glenn 24-7 North Liberty took advantage of three Jolin Glenn mistakes and pushed across four first half , touchdowns for a 24-7 victory at Glenn’s field Friday night. The Shamrocks boosted thoir record to 2-2 with the win and dropped the Falcons to 0-3 for the season. A 1-1 record in conference play is the result for the Shamrocks and Glenn slipped to 0-3 in this conference season. NU Statistics JG 1G First Downs 14 73 Rushing 197 177 Passing 24 24 Passes Attempted 13 12 Passes Completed 2 2 Had Intercepted 3 3 Punts 4 19 Average Yards 25 56 Return Yardage 49 4 Fumbles 6 2 Fumbles Last 5 60 Yards Penalized 72 The game had hardly started when the Shamrocks brought their followers to their feet as a second and 23 play featured a short pass from. Jay Scott to Charlie Shearer found the senior halfback reversing his field and getting loose for an overall 48 yard touchdown play. Shearer missed the kick for the extra point, but less than two minutes had passed and it was 6-0. The second score by North Liberty came following a fumble recovery by Dennis Vergon. This started a drive on the Falcon 31 and with the aid of a pass interference call against the Falcons for a key first down, the Shamrocks moved 31 yards in seven plays with Shearer cracking over from two yards out. This time a pass failed to get the extra points and it was 12-0. The next two scores came with lightning quickness. Vergon covered another Falcon fumble and a pass on second down to end Mickey Knepp caught the defense sleeping and went for 37 yards and the score. Again the extra ptiint pass was no good but the lead jumped to 18 and then 24 on the first play from scrimmage after the kickoff as a sideline pass was intercepted by Alan Kaser and he had clear sailing for 39 yards to the Glenn end zone. This time an extra point kick was blocked by John Verkier and the score stayed 24-0 till the half ended. The Falcons, after a very poor first half, completely reversed th« situation in the second 24 minutes. After a squibb kick made it to the Falcon 4, Fred Casteel took over. He paced a Falcon ground game that really started moving the ball. The Falcons kept the pressure on but were unable to dent the scoring column until very earlier in the final period. In a wierd set of circumstances the score came about in justifiable fashion. Casteel was ejected from the game after reaching the North Liberty 6 when he took offense to a hard and little over zealous tackle. After a penalty was assessed back to the 21 for fourth down, Greg Gillies threw into the end zone and Bill Payton grabbed a deflected pass for the score. John Verkier added the extra point on a kick, but that ended the scoring for the night. With Casteel on the sidelines, the Falcon ofiense didn't get anything going again. Before the referee stopped Casteel, he amassed 132 yards in 26 carries. Scott proved to be the big offensive gun for the Shamrocks as his passing was their basic offensive weapon. The Scoring
