The topic "1 Saw Death First Hand’’ was given by Mrs. Louis McEndarter followed by a prayer. A discusbion was held regarding several items such as, cleaning the parsonage lor our new pastor, food shower, painting the main part of the church basemen., getting estimates on shrubs to go around the front part of the church, donating money toward the new oitice equipment, etc. The meeting was closed with the repeating of the missionary benediction followed fy a lovely luncheon served ty the hostesses. MIRIAM CRICLE MEETS The Miriam Circle of St. John's Lutheian Church met on August 23 at the home of Mis. Hillis Platz with 10 members and one child present. The topic was given by Mrs. Evelyn Stephenson. We all joined in repeating the Lord's Prayer, then a portion of the Bible was read. We sang the doxology and then we had silent prayer for Mrs. Fred Dorsch. Mis. Evelyn Stephen.-on then read an interesting article entitled, "Is It the Ark?" The Circle decided to donate some money toward the new office equipment and toward th( supplies tor the ladies cookbook, Favorite Recipes. It was brought to our attention that we have paint and should plan a day to paint the church basement as soon as the weather permits. The ladies of our church are invited to attend the fall assembly meeting on October 4 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in South Bend from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The meeting was closed with the repeating of the missionary benediction. A lovely luncheon wies served by the hostess. JAY( EES ELECT OI FK ERS ’lhe newly electeu dicers of the WalKt-uon Jaycees are Dave Baker, president; Larry Dill, vice-pres-ident; Ken Chapman, external vice-president; Bod Wagner, treasurer; John Froyck, secretary; Doug Baker, Lanny Savoie, Dave Hutt, Allan Schmeltz, Dave Scott and Don Ludwig, directors. The Jaycees are also sponsoring a winter basketball league and if anyone is interested in entering a team, call 586-3153. Tne Jaycees Board of Directors will meet on Tuesday, September 12, at 7:30 p.m. The sotttall team will also compete in the Jaycee State Softball Tournament being held at Greenwood, Indiana, on September 16 and 17. This is a double elimination toumjy with eight teams competing.
