Orientation For Junior Miss Pageant Sunday The Walkerton Jaycees will have an orientation meeting of all interested contestants and their 1 parents on Sunday, September 10 at 3:00 p.m. in the John Glenn ' High School for the Junior Miss 1 Pageant. Girls from La Ville, North Liberty, John Glenn and Oregon-Dav- ' is High Schools are invited to participate. A general discussion with questions and answers will be held with slides from other Junior Miss Pageants. Refreshments will be served* FALCONS TO PLAY FIRST CONFERENCE GAME The John Glenn Falcon Football team will travel to Fairfield for their first conference game of the season. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. A victory over Triton was gained by Fairfield in their opener last Friday and the Falcons fell to the Rochester team. TRI KAPPA TO MEET Epsilon Chi chapter of Tri Kappa will meet on Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. at the new Walkerton Nursing Home. The guest speaker for the evening will be from the Riley childrens hospital' A Aal FAIR TAX ASSOCIATION * TO MEET The St Joseph County Fair Tax Association will meet on Tuesday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the South Bend Public Library with Robert Hakes, president, presiding. The meeting is intended to inform city and county taxpayers on the crucial decision they must make on November 7 concerning the County Government Restructuring issue. Bowmans To Be Honored This Sunday Rev. and Mrs. Robert Bowman will be honored by the congregation of the First United Presbyterian Church with a carry-in dinner on Sunday, September 10, following the worship service. North Liberty Lions To Hold Ladies Night The September meeting of the North Liberty Lions will be a Ladies Night and will be held on Monday evening, September 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Lambie's. The club is working hard on increasing its membership, and this meeting will also be a special one for invited guests and their wives. The program for the evening will be presented by Rick Hammond, who recently returned from a six-week journey to Japan as a member of the Lions Youth Exchange Program. Rick, the son of Lion and Mrs. William C. Hammond, spent his time in Japan in the homes of two families. All Lions are urged to attend and bring their ladies to this meeting. The new’ Lions will be officially installed at the October meeting on October 9. The district governor, Bud Seely, and his cabinet secretary, Raymond Pinkerton, will be with us for the October installation. NOTICE The North Liberty Water Works will flush hydrants on Thursday and Friday, September 7 and 8 in the afternoons. SHAMROCKS PLAY AT JIMTOWN FRIDAY The North Liberty Shamrocks will open season play Friday night with a football game at Jimtown. Kickoff is set for 7:30 in this NSC game. To Hear Talk On Amish Community Samuel L. Yoder, Director of Teacher Education at Goshen College will talk on "The Amish Community" at the Walkerton Woman's Community Club meeting Friday, September 15, Mr. Yoder was born in Reno County, Kansas, to an Amish family, in an Amish community. At the age of 21, however, he transferred his church affiliation to the Mennonite Church. During World War 11. he served in Civilian Public Service, in forestry work in Illinois and California and in therapeutic work in mental hospitals in Utah, Rhode Island and New York. He also spent three years in Western Europe on Mennonite Central committee assignments in relief work, and refugee resettlement and rehadihtation. Educated at Goshen College, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, and Indiana University at Bloomington, Mr. Yoder taught in the Mishawaka Public Schools from 1952 through 1961. He has been with Goshen College since leaving Mishawaka. Mr. Yoder is married and has two sons. Anyone interested in hearing this talk is most welcome. Refreshments will be served at 1:00 p.m. and the program will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Walkerton Community Building. • SENIOR FELLOWSHIP TO TAKE TWO-DAY TRIP i The Walkerton Senior Fellowship group will meet at the new United Methodist Church on Wednesday morning, September 13, at 7:30 p.m. to start on a two- । day trip to the Spring Mill State Park and other points of intereet. Picnic baskets will be taken to । provide most of the meals and motel arrangements are being made. Anyone in the community is wel- । come to join the group. There will be plenty of cars.
