Louis Kemp visited in Chicago for several days with his daughter, Elta Lanham, before returning to Lake Wales, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schmeltz spent part of last week at Great Bear Lake at Bloomington, Michigan, with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Fox. Although they had some rain nearly every day, the fishing was fair and they had all they could eat. Mr. and Mrs. J. Z. Uhlir and daughter Sally, of Oak Park, 111., were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Newell. The birthdays of Mrs. Uhlir and Mrs. Newell, who are sisters, were celebrated. Miss Linda Huhnke has been vacationing in Campbell, California, visiting her uncle and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Huhnke, for the past two weeks. Mrs Gene Catelani and daughter Lisa, of Petaluma, California, spent two weeks here with her mother, Mrs. Jack Jones and her sisters and brothers and their families. Mr. and Mrs. Hobart Luther, of LaPorte, were Sunday afternoon and evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur DeMyer and Craig. Gene Knowlton was also a guest. Afternoon callers were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Finch, of Hanna. Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Clark were Monday afternoon visitors with her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Wooley, in LaPorte. Debra Rosa, route 2, box 640, Walkerton, received a blue ribbon at tne state fair, with her angel food cake in foods V. •Ihe 0.N.0. Club, of Chicago, Illinois, gave a birthday party for Mrs. Caroline Newell August 20. Caroline is an honorary member of tne club. Present were Mr. and Mrs. E. A. perterson, Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Dunnam, Mr and Mrs. Carlin Corbett, Mr, and Mrs. Elmer naruoiu, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gerbis, Homewood, 111., Mrs. June Birtsch, of ' Homewood, Mrs. Margaret Dunaid, Munster, Ind., Mr and Mrs. M. F. Ciemonds, Harvey, ill., and Mrs. Mary Mahood, Hazel Crest, Jmnout. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Stull, Miss Betty Junes, Larry Stull and Barry Heim, spent tne week end in Harrison, Ohio, with Mr. and Mrs. John Zubril. On friday they attended the baseball game between Cincinnati and Philadelphia. Miss Ethel Bierly has for a house guest this past week Mrs. Doris Matthews, of Cedar Lake, Indiana. On Wednesday of laM week, Mr. and Mrs. Al Disdruw and three children, of Vancouver, Washington, were afternoon and evening guests. On Friday she had three visitors from North Judson to spend the day and they were Mrs. Gladys Gilfoy, Mrs. Esther Fingerhut and Mrs. Blanch .Turner. * Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hannon, of Washington, D.C., are here visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Maistaff, of Union Mills. Monday night the Malstaffs entertained for dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hannon, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Malataff and family, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Malstaff and family, Union Mills, Miss Ethel Bierly, Mrs. Doris Matthews, of Cedar Lake, Mrs. Florence Hannon and son Pat, of Hanna, and Mr. and Mrs. Amos Bierly, Walkerton, present. Mrs. Ruth Clark returned Monday from a week vacation spent in Dewdtt, Michigan, visiting her nephew and family, in Laingsburg, Michigan, and to visit two nieces and their families. Her sisters, Mrs. John Hoover and Miss Malle Jackson, of South Bend, accompanied her on the trip.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilder Bumside were in Milford on Sunday to visit with her sister, Mrs. Edith Baumgartner. Mr. and Mra. Cleo Clark and Mr. and Mrs. John Clark and family were in Chicago Sunday to be present for the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Scott . mini * . Jim Vargo arrived home Tuesday from San Francisco for a month’s stay with his parents. Jim is in the Navy and when he returns to base he will be stationed in Georgia. Mrs. Fred Polk, of Koontz Lake left Wednesday for .Hobart to make her home near her daughter and family. Mrs. Polk has a new mobile home and is in the Camelot Mobile Home Park, Portage. She has sold her home at the lake. Last Friday was the 93rd birthday of Mrs. Emma Zigler. Callers in the afternoon were Mrs. Charles Daube, Mrs. Esther Kauffman, Mrs. Amos Bierly, Mrs. Minnie Mikesell and evening callers were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Zigler and daughter, of LaPorte, and her son Art, of LaPorte. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Erdelyi and family, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Erdelyi and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Erdelyi and daughter of South Bend, and Mr. and Mrs. John Goheen and son, of South Bend, were Sunday evening dinner guests of Mrs. Julius Erdelyi Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Smith and family, of Crestwood, Illinois, were guests last week of his mother, Mrs. Russell Smith, Koontz Lake. On Wednesday Mr. R. Kremin, of Inglewood, California, was also a guest. Rev. and Mrs. Clyde Wake vacationed in southern Indiana last week end and then Monday thru Wedesday when he attended the annual School of the Prophets, in Indianapolis. Mrs. Frank Dunn spent the week end in Lafayette visiting her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Dunn. Mrs. George Hillis recently attended the wedding of her nephew, Howard Christman, to Linda Nyhelm, in Racine, Wisconsin. Mrs. Hillis continued on to Menomonee Falls, Wiscosin, to visit her mother, Mrs. Arthur Christman, arid other relatives for several days. Mrs. George Hillis went to Chicago on Friday to attend the funeral services for a long time friend, Mrs. Belle Long. A recipe for fruit pie ffubmitted by Beverly Sue Berkebile, home economics teacher at Urey Middle School, in Walkerton, has been chosen for inclusion in Pies and Pastries, the newest edition In the Favorite Recipes of Home Economics Teachers cookbook series. Mr. and Mrs. Branson Hiatt and daughter returned home recently from a nine day trip thru the Smoky Mountains, a stop at Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina, to see their son and brother Bill, and also a stop at Augusta, Georgia, was made to visit with Charles Hiatt and family. A family reunion was held in South Carolina with Jim Hiatt and family, of North Liberty, Charles Hiatt and family, Bill Hiatt and the Branson Hiatts at Oconee State Park.

Mrs. Weltha Bui sides, Mrs. Alta Bowers and Mrs. Ada Miller were at the Haven Hubbard Home in New Carlisle on Tuesday of this week. Mrs. Bowers and Mrs. Miller helped with the mending 1< r the home and Mrs. Burnside taught a class in crafts which the women of the home enjoyed so much. Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne Pavev and family returned last week from a two week vacation in the west stopping at the Eisenhower Center at Abilene, Kansas; Yellowstone National Park; Salt Lake City; and they camped several days at Diamond Guest Ranch at Chugwater, Wyoming. They were fortunate to have nice weather and the family enjoyed the vacation and country so much. Dawn and Douglas Arseneau, of Whiting, spent two weeks here with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Mayotte Arseneau. GROVES REUNION HELD The Gail Groves family reunion was held on Sunday, August 27 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Groves, Walkerton, with 80 of the immediate family of 124 present. Mrs. Joe Ballinger was the oldest and Anthony Wayne Hall, the four month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hall, of Warsaw, was the youngest. Mrs. Eileen Salmon, from Woodbuiy, Tenn., came the farthest. Others came from South Bend, Nappanee, Warsaw, Bourbon, Argos and Plymouth. Next year’s reunion will be held at the same place on the third Sunday in August. uses TO HEAR MRS.
