Janet, Julie and Jim Ryan were Saturday guests of their grandparents, Mr. and jHra Wayjne Burch. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gardner were in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, over the holidays to visit with their son Tim. Tim plays baseball with the local Sheboygan team and was engaged in a couple of games over the week end which his parents were lucky enough to attend. In celebration of his 12th birthday, Pat McGovern wanted to see the Cubs play in Chicago. So on Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. John McGovern and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cover attended the game between the Chicago Cubs and the Montreal Expos and seen the Cubs win. An enjoyable time was had by all. Monday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Clark were Mr. & Mrs. Steve Clark and family of LaPorte and Mr. and Mrs. Nell Smith of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Agnew Ludwig were week end guest in Indianapolis of her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson. The Koontz Lake Conservation Club will hold their regular pot luck supper on Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. at the club house. Mrs. Emma Ward and Mrs. Adeline Flaherty will serve as hostesses for the evening along with a social hour following. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beaty and Mr. Roy Hostetter visited Mrs. Beaty's sister, Mrs. Homer Hawkins, in Bellfountain, Ohio, as well as other relatives and friends over the Memorial Day week end. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Urbin and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ryan were in attendance at the Indianapolis 500 Mlle Race on Saturday. Mrs. Edith Ullery and daughter Jean, of LaPorte, and Mr. and Mrs. Kerry Reed and son, of Bremen, were Monday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schaeffer. Mrs. Ruth Hughes, of South Bend, sister of Mrs. Bertha Urbin, and Mrs. Urbin, spent Sunday in Kewanna and Winamac visiting relatives. Dr. and Mrs. Robert Fenstermacher returned home Monday evening from a five day trip to Alcapolca. This was a study tour sponsored by McKesson Labratories and the remainder of the time was spent sight seeing and enjoying the warmth. The United Methodist Church Conference came to a close on Sunday and the local congregation are happy to have Rev. and Mrs. Clyde Wake return for another year as pastor serving the congregation. Also the Wakes are proud to announce that they are the grandparents of a new grandson born in Washington, Indiana. Mrs. Hazel Foulks, of Fort Wayne is spending several weeks here with her sister, Mrs. Jack Jones, who had the misfortune of of falling in her home last week and is suffering with broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder. Another visitor in her home is her grandson, Craig Catelani, from Petaluma, California.
Mr. Amos Bierly was home with his family and friends over the holiday week end from the Rehabilitation Center in Chicago. Mrs. Nellie Purdy has returned to the Walkercon Nursing Home on Saturday after being in the hospital in LaPoite for some time. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Stephenson, of Marseilles, Illinois, were Saturday and Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Gillies and family. Mrs. Stevenson was a 1945 graduate of the local Walkerton High School and came to attend the Alumni Banquet held on Saturday evening at the John Glenn high school. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ullery and granddaughters Pattie and Janice Houser, of North Liberty, spent the week end at Angola for a camp out. Mr, and Mrs. John Kircofe, of Ft. Wayne also spent the holidays with them camping. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wilkins and family, of Chicago, were week end guests of his sister, Mrs. Ellen Brede. Week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Brehm, of Koontz Lake, were Mr. and Mrs. George Nealis, of Tinley Park, in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Brehm just returned from a stay in Cedar Rapids, lowa, with Mr. and Mrs. William Blood, who presented Mr. and Mrs. Brehm with a new granddaughter. Week end guests of Mrs. Russell Smith of Koontz Lake were Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Smith and family, of Crestwood, Illinois, and Sunday and Monday guests were Mr. and Mrs. John Newhardt, of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle RenSberger, Jeff and Cambi, of Roann were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rensberger. Other callers over the holidays were Mr. and Mrs. Homer Rumley, Walkerton, and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Rensberger, of LaPorte. Miss Ethel Bierly Retires From Teaching Miss Ethel Bierly, third grade teacher at the Liberty Elementary School in the North JudsonSan Pierre School district, retired this year from teaching following 43 years of experience. San Pierre Schools. Ethel began her first year of teaching in 1920 at the Vanokur School in Ralph, South Dakota. The following year she returned to Indiana to teach in LaPorte County. Later she taught at Whites Institude in Wabash County. After nine years, she returned to LaPorte County and taught at Clinton Township and La Crosse Schools, then to Ober in Starke County. In 1958, Miss Bierly was employed at North Judson where she stayed for che remainder of her career. Miss Bierly received her Bachelor's Degree from Manchester College in 1952 and has completed graduate study at Indiana State and Indiana Universities. She has been very active in community clubs and has traveled to several foreign countries. She visited Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, South America, Europe and the Holy Lands. She now plans to reside at her home in Walkerton. LOREN CAPEK HONORED The State Department of Public Instruction honored Loren Capek, Walkerton, who received an award in the National Scholastic Magazine Art and Photography competition on Sunday, May 28, at 2:00 p.m. in the South Bend Art Center, by Assistant Superintendent of Public Inustruction, Sam Mercantini. Seventy-four Indiana high school students were recognized this month by the national student magazine for outstanding achievement in art and photography. The winning entries will be on display from June 13 to June 30 at the Union Carbide Exhibition Hall in New York City. Sell it through the classifieds.

DEGREES COM ERRED ON LOCAL STL DEMS Degrees were conferred on eight Walkerton students at commencement ceremonies of Indiana University at South Bend in the Morris Civic Auditorium, May 17. IUSB graduated 710 students. The list of graduates includes those qualifying for degrees m January, May and August.
