in 1971 after 30 years in the Army, was born in Greene Township, St. Joseph County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hiatt. He graduated from Greene Township High School and entered the service of the country. Relatives of Lt. Col. Hiatt and young Charles from this area are: Paul Hiatt. South Bend- a brother and uncle, James Hiatt, North Liberty; and a sister ano aunt Mrs. Robert Anderson, Wheatfield, Indiana. DORCAS CIRCLE MEETS The Dorcas Circle of St. John's Lutheran Church met on May 10 at the home of Mrs. Thelma Jacobs. Mrs. Evelyn Stephenson opened the meeting with two songs and the reading of Psalm. Her topic was about preparing Lutheran women for pentecost. The ladies were reminded to please save Betty Crocker coupons to help resupply our kitchen needs. Miss Nancy McEndarfer reported that 17 kitchen knives were purchased with the coupons saved thus far. Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Luxnat have donated new Sunday School hymnals. Mrs. Edna Beron and Mrs. Loyd Umbaugh have made cancer pad for use in nursing home, ect. Two new acolyte robes have been ordered and will be here soon. A few other items were discussed also. The meeting was closed with the repeating of the missionary benediction followed by a lovely luncheon served by the hostess. MIRIAM CIRCLE MEETS The Miriam Circle of St. John's Lutheran Church met on May 17 in the church social room with Mrs. Art Gail as the hostess with 8 members present and one visitor. The topic was given by Mrs. Roy Reamsehnyder. The theme was “Come Holy Spirit,’’ with the following six points: bring direction, freedom, identity, life, release and trust. This topic was in observance of pentecoost. Mrs. Mina Belt volunteered to take our items collected for the May Lutheran World Relief clothing drive to Nappanee for us. The women were reminded to donate pies for Mr. and Mrs. HaroM Goodling’s public sale on Redwood Road on May 20. The constitution committee had met and some changes are being made. Spring Menu Magic ■ Mom, here’s mealtime magic for early spring suppers. This Chicken-Asparagus Casserole will satisfy the family after a day of outdoor activity. Tender fresh asparagus and chunks of chicken are blended with mushroom soup for a savory base. The corn bread topping, made with a dependable, time-saving corn muffin mix, adds complementary flavor. CHICKEN-ASPARAGUS CASSEROLE Makes 6 servings
Base: 1 lb. fresh asparagus, cut into 1-inch pieces OR One 10-oz. pkg. frozen asparagus, thawed and cut into 1-inch pieces 2Vz cups chopped cooked chicken One lOVz-oz. can condensed cream of mushroom soup
Heat oven to hot (400‘F.). If using rresn asparagus, slightly saute asparagus in 2 tablespoons butter or margarine. For base, combine asparagus, chicken, mushroom soup, milk, salt and marjoram in 2-qt. casserole. Bake in preheated oven (400 F.) about 12 minutes, or until mixture bubbles. For topping, empty contents of muffin mix package into bowl. Add egg and milk. Bl r nd only until dry ingredients are thoroughly moistened. (Batter should be slightly lumpy.) Spread over hot chicken mixture. Cake in preheated even (400 F.) about 30 minutes or until topping is griden trewn.

TO HOLD SPECIAL SERVICES , On Sunday, May 28 the First Baptist Church at 407 W. Elm St., North Liberty will be holding special services for the entire day; starting with the Sunday School hour at 9:30 and then the church service at 10:30 and again in the evening at 7:30. The Rev. Gary Collins a noted Gospel Magician and Ventriloquist will be the guest for the day. He is famous for his Ventriloquism, Magic Chalk Illustrations, Oil painted Flanel-graph with Black-light, Dramatization and Puppets. Mr. Collins was saved at an early age and started using his magic in high school as a means to illustrate the Scripture to the kids. He is a graduate of Bob Jones University in 1968 and was licensed to preach by the York Baptist Church of Milan, Michigan. He is now in full time evangelism and is available for all types of meetings and seminars. The pastor, Rev. Russell Schelling extends your welcome to worship with us.
