David Leonard of Kokomo was a Sunday guest of Mr. and Mrs. James Verkier and family. Mrs. Edward Petersen, Koontz Lake and Mrs. Newton Williams, Walkerton were guests at a luncheon Bridge in the home of Mrs. Clarence Eickel, LaPorte, Thursday May, 18. Mrs. Hazel Barden, Mrs. Tom Wood and Mrs. Robert Barden were in South Bend Monday to visit Mrs. Bardens daughter. Mrs. Leonard Deranck, who was a patient at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Thompson, Owensville, Indiana were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Williams, and the two couples attended the reception of IRA Smyrl Jr.. Worthy Grand Patron of the Indiana Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, on Saturday, May 21. In LaPorte Mrs. Thomas is Grand Organist of the Indiana Grand Chapter. Sunday evening guests of Mrs. Betty Germaine. Rick and Joni were Mrs. Marjorie Cochran and Miss Hazel Germaine of South Bend. They all attended the graduation excercise at John Glenn where Rick was among the graduates. Those present at the graduation excercises of Kevin Jacob on Sunday afternoon and evening were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Jacob and family; Mr. and Mrs. David Miller of Union, Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Anderson of Niles, Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wilson of Mexico, Indiana; Mr. and Mrs. Alton Clark of South Bend, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Buswell, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Hunt and Deniese Baker of Walkerton. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barden entertained wdth a dinner from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. for open house for their son Duane who was a graduate from John Glenn. Guests were present from South Bend, Mishawaka, Michigan City, Nappanee, Chesterton, and Mrs. Tom Wood from California and other friends and neighbors.

Grace Atwood, Walkerton entered the E Street Division Hospital in LaPorte on Friday, May 19 where she is a medical patient. On May 20, in the morning, the freshmen class of John Glenn High School left by bus at 6:30 for a trip to McCormick Creek State Park. Eighty-eighty students enjoyed the trip and they returned to the school at 9:30 p.m. The class was accompanied by their sponsors Mr. Robert Young, Linda Parker and her two children Brian and Lisa. Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Skinner and Mrs. and Mrs. Lloyd Smith were host to a group of friends on Saturday for a pot luck dinner. The cake was decorated with the names of Claude Grenert, Evelyn Stoneburner and Lloyd Smith on it in honor of their birthdays. The group consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Grenert and granddaughter; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stoneburner, Mr. and Mrs. W. Bumside, Mr. and Mrs. Clell Fouts, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Taylor, Mrs. Alta Bowers, Hazel Barden, Etta Mae Millner, Mrs. Ellen Brede, Mrs. Dorothy Walsh, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beaty, Mr. nad Mrs. Don Teter of Mishawaka and Mr. and Mrs. Chester Thayer of LaPaz. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Graf of Lakeville and about forty-five other relatives, neighbors and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Leroy Smith after the commencement excercises on Sunday evening to honor John Smith on his graduation. Sandwiches, cake and punch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Devon Wolff from Kissimmee, Florida were here to visit friends and relatives from Wednesday thru Sunday. They came to see Mrs. Joe Ballinger, her mother, who has been ill and slowly improving. Business meeting of the Koontz Lake Conservation Club will be held on May 26 at the clubhouse beginning at 7:30 p.m. There will not be a pot luck supper on Saturday evening because of the long holiday week end.
Mrs. Melvin Harrison, Walkerton, underwent major surgery, Friday, May 19, in the Pine Lake Division Hospital, LaPorte. Mr. and Mrs. Art DeMyer were in Madison & Hanover, Indiana last week to watch the Indiana Central College baseball team of which Craig is a member, win the District 21, NAI A small college tournament. 'Phis Thursday they will meet Ferris State of Michigan, in the Area 6 playoff at Canten, Ohio. Dr. and Mrs. V. B. Wolfe of Seibring, Flordia came last week for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Walz and other relatives and friends. Other guests in the Walz home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wolfe and son Bill of Park Forrest, Illinois. Mrs. Wolfe returned home with them for a weeks stay, , , Mr. and Mrs. Dan Giftakas, 803 Jackson Street entertained over the week end, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Remy of Dixon, Illinois and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stroller of Debuque, lowa. Mr. Remy and Mrs. Stroller are brother and sister of Mrs. Giftakas. While here the birthday of Mr. Giftakas was celebrated which occured May 18. Mr. and Mrs. George Pfeiffer W’ere in Hammond on Friday evening to attend the wedding of her niece Miss Patricia Weide. On May 10 the senior class of John Glenn high school left the school house at 8:30 a.m. for a trip into Chicago. On arrival the students were free to roam around and see the sights or shop or what have you for three hours. Then they all gathered at the inee to see a suspence comedy, Blackstone Theater for the mat- “ Sleuth.” After this they walked to Italian Village restaurant for dinner. At the dock at the foot of the Wrigley Building they left for a two hour boat ride on the Chicago river and lake Michigan. Visible from the boat were the lights of Chicago, Marina City, the Planateriam, Museum of Science and Industry, Navy Pier and the locks on the water front. The boat trip was followed by a trip to the top of the rock to look out over the city from the John Hancock building and then back on the busses to return to the school at 12:30 a.m, on Thursday morning.

Mrs. Agnes Abrams is a patient in the Walkerton Nursing Home, following several weeks as a medical patient in the Pine Lake Division Hospital, LaPorte. Jim Neigenfind of Antigo, Wisconsin was a week end guest of Bill Bierly. Jim was in the Peace Corp with Bill through their training and was located sixty miles from Bill in India while in the corp. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Helfrich were in Monon Sunday for the memorial services and burial of his cousin George Helfrich of Indianapolis. A number of the people at the lake were aquainted with him. The following were in attendance at the Indiana State Convention of the Jaycees held at Indianapolis over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Famer, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Dill, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Malstaff, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Martin, Mr. and Mrs. David McKesson, Mr. and Mrs. David Baker, Kenneth Chapman, Chester Bigler, Allen Schmeltz, Gary Morrison, Lannie Savoie, Don Ludwig, Dave Scott and Miss Ruth Frailey. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Houser attended the commencement exercises at Bethel College, Mishawaka, on Sunday, May 21, for their son Richard who received a B.A. degree. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wood of Torrance, California arrived Sunday for a two week stay visiting her mother, Mrs. Hazel Barden and other relatives and friends in the area. Mr. and Mrs. Delor Wolfenbergur arrived here on Sunday from Reno, Nevado, to spend a week with her mother, Mrs. William Slone at 903 Ohio Street. Sunday afternoon callers of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Burch were Mrs. Jack Ryan, Janet, Julie and Jim and Mrs. Robert Urbin. BRIDAL SHOWER GIVEN A miscellaneous bridal shower was given for Miss Phyllis Jean Heim on Sunday, May 21 by the Misses Kathy Hough, Sheri Hough and Kim Rizek nieces of the bride-elect. The gift table was decorated with a pink cloth and white streamers, the corners were accented with pink bows and the center of the table was decorat-
ed with a white parasol with pink trim. The punch table was decorated with pink and white cloth with matching napkins centered with pink candles and a pink geranium, which was later presented to the bride-elect. Desert of strawberry sparkle cake was served with pink lemonade, ice tea, coffee, nuts and mints. Games were played and prizes were won by Mrs. Charlotte Shaw, Miss Cindy Spriggs and Miss Rowena Buton and duplicate prizes were awarded to the bride-elect. Miss Heim becomes the bride of Larry Tudolski, Mill Creek, on June 17 at the St. Joseph Church of LaPorte. Miss Heim is a former resident of North Liberty.
