Mrs. George Hillis visited her mother, Mrs. Arthur Christman at Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin uve the Easter week end. Mr. and Mrs. Wilder Burnside atended the 50111 wedding anniversarj celebration of his brother and wile on Saturday, Mr and Mrs. Berlin Burnside in Ogden put.es, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beaty wen Tuesday evening dinner gue.-ts of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cole and family and also a celebration of Mi. Beaty birthday was ht Id. Wednesday dinner guests in the home of Mrs. Harry Mechhng and family were Mrs. Ben Brede, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Steele and Mr. and Mis. Ted Feece and family all of Walkerton; Mr. and Mrs. George Mechhng of LaForte, Deanne Mechling of Washington, D.C., and Lt. Robert Mechimg. Lt. Robert Meching, who is serving with the Seventh Army in Europe returned to duty Saturday after spending a 30-day furlough with his mother, Mrs. Hairy Mechling. Nancy and Jim. Miss Deanne Mechling, Washington. D.C., arrived home Wednesday for a visit. On Thursday they visited Mr. and Mrs. Terry King in Chicago adn Friday was spent in Bloomington with Margaret Mechling and Mr. and Mrs. Gars Mechling. Mrs. Nora Hahn, Mrs. Leota Weakly and Todd returned home Thursday from a three week vacation in Flordia and North Carolina While in Flordia they visited Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fox, Mrs Hahn s sister and Mr. and Mrs Edward Finch near Tampa and Bradenton. Also part of their stay was spent with Mr. ami Mrs. Warner Clark at Lake Placid and much sightseeing was done including a day at Disney World. On their way home, they went to Chapel Hill, North Carolina where they stayed a few days with Dr. and Mrs. Neal Weakly and Mehssa. While there Neal took them through his research laboratories and office at the University of North Carolina where he is associated with the department of Physiolog; .

Grandma Norton spent the week eno wnn iwr. Mrs. Roy Skinner in Chesterton. Mrs Harold Rensberger returned home Tuesday from Memorial Hospital, South Bend, where she has been for the past several months. She would appreciate her friends to drop in for a call. The Koontz Lake Conservation Club pot luck supper will be on Saturday evening at 5:30 p m. at the club house with Mrs. Nellie Pfeiffer and Mrs. Viola Helfrich hostesses for the evening. A social hour will follow dinner. A bridal shower was given in the home of Mrs. A.J. Kennedy, Illinois Street, for her granddaughter, Mrs. James Treager of South Bend. Mrs. Douglas Baker and Mrs. Randy Johnson were cohostesses for the shower. Guest were from South Bend, Bremen, Grovertown and Walkerton. Mr. David Kring, a Big Brother, from South Bend calk'd on Tracy and Tony Thornton recently. Tracy and Tony are the grandsons or Vera Amor and have been chosen by Mr. Kring and the boys are very happy and proud to have him as a Big Brother. Mr. Kring is a highly educated man. He is secretarytreasurer of a construction company in South Bend. He spent two years in Gary and one year in Michigan City. He says he feels there is much need for Big Brothers here in the area. Mr. Kring owns a home on Lake Michigan and he has a house boat, sail boat and all kinds of sports equipment at the Lake. Tracy and Tony and a group of other boy are to go to the lake in the near future to help get all things ready for •summer. Tracy had Allen Northam as a sponsor Big Brother last year at the Middle School here in Walkerton. Allen and Tracy became very close. Tracy will always respect Allen as one of John Glenns greatest young men for hr is a clean cut, mannered in all walks of life, wants an education and active in sports among other things. We need more young men like Allen and Mr. Kring. Allen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Northam.

Mr. Amos Bierly was home over the week end from the Rehabilitation Center in Chicago. Tiicila Robbins and son Patrick were guests of Misses Karen, Rhonda, and Rose Georgantas and Roxann Skinner in Gary ov^r the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon Jacob and Jeff spent the foie part of last week in Atlanta, Georgia, visiting their daughter Jennifer who is in college there. Mr. Albert Brenner a member of the Valleyaires, South Bend and Mishawaka Barber Shop chorus, attended the District Convention of the SPEDSQSA in Cincinnatti last week end. Mr. Brenner reports their chorus group placed second at the convention. Mr. and Mrs. William Michalski came home Monday from a two week vacation in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, visiting with their two sons, Mr. and Mrs. George Michaski and family and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Michalski. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Adkins, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Frame and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vandall were visited last week by their father, Mr. C. H. Vandall, of Meadow Bridge, West Virginia, also brother and family. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Vandall and sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Knapp, of Lanham, Maryland. Mr. and Mrs. Gregg Burnside of South Bend were Sunday dinner guests of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilder Burnside. Mr. and Mis. William C. Dicksen, Koontz Lake, returned home Monday from a weeks stay in Williamington, Delaware, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Forsha and Mrs. Dicksons sister who is in the nursing home there. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Land and sons, Jerry and Tom, were guests this week of Mrs. Land's sister, Mrs. George Hillis at Koontz Lake. Mrs. Robert Ciara and daughter Nancy of New Jersey, Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Thornburg of Dowagiac, Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Willey and family of Lafayette, Mrs. Mary Ann Carmichael of Kodak, Tennessee, Mr. and Mrs. James Christinson of Rolling Prairie and Mr. and Mrs. Orvile Newland of Lafayette, were all visitors of Mr. and Mrs. John Newland part of last week due to the death of the ladies’ father. Mr. Enos Ford, who had made his home with the Newlands part time but had been confined to a nursing home in Plymouth for the past year. School, Walkerton, has made her an official entrant in the Blue Ribbon Food Fair and eligible for cash awards totaling $5,000. The national awards program, sponsored by Favorite Recipes Press, is open to home economics teachers in junior and senior high schools. Five finalists will be selected from the hundreds of entrants to participate in the Blue Ribbon Food Fair scheduled for May 12-13 in Chicago. The finalists will prepare th< ir own recipes for sampling by a panel of judges. DISCHARGED FROM ARMY Patrick Corwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Corwin, route 1, Walkerton, was discharged from the Army on April 5. He was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, and he also served two times in Germany.
