Fredrick McCarthy To Speak At Chamber Meeting The Walkerton Chamber of Commerce announces that Mr. Fredrick K. McCarthy. Administrative vice-president of Tax and Government Affairs, will be their guest speaker at the April 13 meeting held at Heil's Restaurant, Walkerton, at 12:00 noon. Everyone is welcome. Mr. McCarthy is a native Hoosier born in Crawfordsville. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s degree in Government in 1948 after three years service in the United States Navy. He has been associated with the Manufacturers Association for five years and prior to that time worked for the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce and both the East Chicago and Indianapolis local Chambers. His major area of operation over these years has been that of state and local government and taxation. Mr. McCarthy will be speaking on these subjects. NORTH LIBERTY COMMUNITY BUILDING BOARD PLANS FISH FRY The N. L. Community Building Board met April 3rd with 8 members present. Plans were made for the Orginal Jonah Fish Fry to be held on Saturday May 13th at the Community Building. Serving will be from 4:30-8:00 p.m. The menu includes fish, cole slaw, baked beans, rolls and butter, p»e or cake, coffee or orange. The meal is served family style with all you can eat. The clubs, organizations, and churches represented on this board are: Over 60 Club, "23” Club, Lion’s, Ministerial Assoc., N.F.0., Farm Bureau, Wells Local 194, Liberty Homemakers, Liberty Twp. Club, Church of the Brethren. Tri Kappa, N.L. Woman’s Club, and Methodist Church. Each year the board plans two fish fry events to make enough money to support the Community Building’s upkeep and repairs. This year six tables and the accompanying folding chairs are being purchased. Also small kitchen equipment is needed. So support your Community Building, plan to come, bring your children and friends, and have an enjoyable evening May 13U1. ST. JOSEPH CO FAIR TAX ASSOCIATION TO MEET If you are intrested in learning about the inequities in goverment, it is impreative that you become informed and vote along the lines of the information furnished you For this purpose the St. Joseph County Fair Tax Association invites its members and the public to an "AN Evening With the Candidates.” This will be held at the St. Stanislaus Auditorium, Tulip Road, Terre Coupee, east of New Carlisle, on Tuesday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. All candidates registered to nm in the primary are invited to attend. Questions will be taken from the floor and answered directly. It Is the public’s obligation to find out what these candidates look like and what they think it can vote an intelligent fashion in the coming election, according to Robert Hakes, president. JAYCEES TO SPONSOR SOFTBALL LEAGUE The Walkerton Jaycees are again going to sponsor the slow pitch softball league. The next meeting will be on May 5 at 1:30 p.m. atthe home of Mrs. John Wilcox, Sr. LOCAL GROWERS WIN TOP ' CORN YIELD AWARDS Two area growers have been named to receive special awards for their excellence in corn growing. Announced by the producers of Funk’s G-Hybirds, the awards are in recognition of their production of high corn yiekls. Yields gained by these outstanding farmers are being entered in the nationwide record books of Project: 200. Growers named from this area are Lawrence Snyder, North Liberty, G-444, 127.8 bushels per acre and John F. Cowger, Walkerton, G-4252, 149.7 bushels per acre.
