Blue And Gold Banquet Saturday The Walkerton Cub Scouts will hold their annual Blue and Gold Banquet at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, •February 26 in the Walkerton Elementary School. Boy Scouts also are imited to attend. Families are asked to bring a covered dish and your own table service. Volunteer workers are needed to help set up tables and chairs at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the school. ( , w PLJ SCHOOL BOARD NEWS Mr. Paul A. Jones, Illnoise Street, Wakerton, has been reappointed to another four year term as a member of the Walkerton Library Board by the PLJ School board actoin on Tuesday, February 15. The board afeo discussed unpaid book rentals and the board felt that more stringent efforts should be made to collect the unpa.d fees. Also six students were authorized to receive free lunches. The board approved plans for a proposed learning center at the Tyner school with a proposal to be submited for federal funds to be used in accordance with the title two program of the elementary and secondary education act. ^upt Powell informed the board about recent state legislative action affecting school corporations. He mention* d he was personally unhappy about a lack of state property tax relief. It was also noted the adult basic education program has been given state approval with 10 per cent of funds to be provided locally and the remainder to be obtained from the state goverment for classes in basic reading, writing, math and general knowledge in conjunction with the corporation's "Head Start" program. John Glenn High School has gained North Central Asociation approval for another year and that the last adult was completed satisfactorily. West, attended the 43rd International Turfgrass Conference and show held February 13-18 at the Cincinnati Convention Center in Ohio. All candidates are invited to a 1 o'clock desert luncheon on March 3, when the club next meets in th e Community Building. 7th Grade Wins Tourney The Urey Middle School 7th grade team won the New lYairie tourney held on Saturday, February 12. with the Urey Panthers topping the North Liberty Shamrocks 24-19 with Leonard Jaske scoring eight pointy to lead the way in the first game. In the champrirt-hip game the Panthers played LaVille. The Urey team won by a score of 32-26 with Larry Stull and Barry Heim each getting nine points a piece. Urey's Bth grade team lost to LaVille in their openei’ by a score of 26-22. WALKERTON TOWN BOARD The Walkerton town board met on Tuesday, February 15 and adopted a resolution designing- board president Oarl Dill, in behalf of the Town as submitter of a re-application for a fedral garnt under public kiw 60 to assist in the con truction of a sewage disposal plant and additional sewer mains. In previous years the town’s application filed with the state stream and pollution control board ended up low in final status clarifications. This must be submitted each year. Final plans were authorized to be submitted by the Clyde E. Williams and As ociates of South Bend to the board .sometime in July. Following an interview , the application of Robert Sickman, 1007 Harrhon Street, Wakerton, was accepted and he was appointed. effective. Discussion was heard regarding removal of a vacated dwelling from a tact of ground recently purchased by the town on North Adam Street, north of tlie Baltimore and Ohio railroad. The area will be leveled with town equipment. That tract of land, with other land recently purchased by the town, will be ued as th c eventual site of a muncipal sewage treatm* nt plant. Hornaday. 73. of 908 Ohio St., Walkerton, who died Thursday, February 17, in the Vetrans Hospital in Fort Wayne, were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home in Walkerton. He was a veteran of World War I, a memeber of the VFW, and a member of Walkerton American Legion Port 1899 which conduited militaiy (services at the graveside. He was a retailed representative of the Electro Lux Corp. He was born March 23, 1898 in Nebra ka and had lived in the area since 1942, coming from Elkhart. He was married to Marie Reynolds who died about 10 year# ago. Survivors include a son, Gerald of Battle Creek; a daughter, Mrj. Wi<lodean Daube of Otsego. Michigan; five grandchildren; and a si. ter, Mrs. Phoebe Tryon of Dowagiac. MRS. JOHN ROMWALTER Mrs. Theresia Romwaiter, 82, 24510 Quinn Road, North Liberty, died in her home after a brief illness at 2:30 p.m. W. dnesday, February 16. She was born on June 15, 1889 in Bur-genhau-en. Austria and came here 63 years ago, when she moved to North Liberty. As Thers a Wiegcr she wa s marri.d on October 11, 1911, to John Romwalter, who survives along with three sons, Joseph of Haslett, Michigan; John of Okemos, Michigan and William of North Liberty; a daughter, Mrs. Don Eichstadt of South Bend; 18 grandchildren and 7 greatgrandebikiren. Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. US. 31. South of which she was amemb -r with Rev. Anthony Molnar, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, South Bend, Mrs. Maude Margaret Heber Mrs. Maude Margaret HoLser, 82 of 506 Ohio St., Walkerton died Fr.day afternoon at her hme of an apparent heart attack. She wan born February 19, 1889, at Pleasant Mills. Indiana. and had lived in this area for the past 50 years, coming from Frankfort. Indiana. On December 24. 1938 she married B< rt I Hol er at Fort Wayne. He died June 8. 1949. Surviving are a step-daughter Mrs. Peter Walter, formerly of South Bend; a brother, Joe V. Steele of Decatur. Again thia year, minor changes in the contest rules have been made to clarify the qualification for entering and to encourage all participants to submit or.gnal and creative artwork. Accidently Shot By Brother Raymond Komon, 12, Watson Road, Walkerton. suffered lip. cheek and toungue injuries after being -hot in the mouth with a pistol which a brother was playing with according to police. Raymond is the son of Mr. and Mrs James Clemons, Rt. 1. Walkerton. Watson Rd., and they were not at home at the time of the accid ntal shooting on Wednesday, February 16 The boy was taken by a neighbor to the Walkerton Medical Clinic and then tran. sered to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Six of the Clemons children were home aging from six to fourteen. The fourteen year old brother of the injured youth was reportedly playing with the .22 caliber pistol when it dscharged according to State Police.
