Strong Second Half Borys 0-D Friday The John Glenn Falcon® got off to a slow start in their first basketball game in over two weeks, but came on strong with a balanced attack to bury the Oregon-Davi® Bobcats by a big 86 to 50 score Friday. The win was the sixth In nine games and the fourth in a row for the Glenn Falcons. Scoring was very slow as the action started. John Harness tickled the twine from the left corner afer half a minute passed and only a free throw ty O-D’s Jack Awald appeared in either basket for quite some time until Ralph Pearish gave the visitors their only lead of the night with an eleven footer. Bill Flaugher tied it with a charity tos® but until Bruce Dayhuff broke the ice with a baseline shot from medium range, It looked like no one was going to score again. Over one and a half minutes had elapsed and it was only 5-3 in a game that wasn’t a slow down affair just loosely played
with .some very off target shcoting. Flaugher h.t next and was followed by Rich R< ese with a lay in on a fast break and then a pair of free shots for a quick 11 to 3 lead after the lids came oft the baskets. David Schwenk and Dan Coffin hit in accession for the Bobcats and Dayhuff came right back with a long baseline thot for Glenn. Awald fl pped in an eight footer to end the first quarter as Glenn held a 13-9 lead. Things really didn’t open up in the first half of the second period as the so so play continued. A 14 footer from the side by Pearish started the scoring only to have Curt Pletcher drill a 16 footer and Hamess hit in close. However a medium range shot by Schwenk on which he was pu hed turned into a three point play and with 4:25 showing on the clock in the fidst half, Robin Pflugshaunt hit a pair of one pointers to pull the Bobcats to within one, 17 to 16. This is the point Glenn started to break it open. Brad Gillies hit first from 13 foot. Dayhuflf cashed jn on the business end of a fast break and Alan Bachtel creased the cords from the right baseline. Gillies then aided two more on a fast break and Dayhuff put a rebound back in for 10 points without a return before Awald and Pearish hit for the visitors. Gillies cracked another and after Pflugshaunt added two free throw’s, Dayhuff wrapped up the first half scoring with an 18 footer that gave the Falcons a 31 to 22 halftime lead. The second half was all Glenn. With Harness and Dayhuff getting eight and seven respectively in the third period, the Falcons moved to a 55 to 35 lead at the end of three and capped it off with a 31 point total in the final quarter to coast to the 86 to 50 victory. In all the 11 Falcons who are on the varsity all shared in the scoring with John Harness at the top of the point producers with 19. Dayhuff had 15 and Reese 10 for the other Falcons in double figures. Schwenk with 15 and Pearish at 12 paced the OregonDavi® crew. The Falcon B team easily got their initial win over the scheduled teams with a 70 to 36 win.
