PLJ Enrollment Figures Are Released Unofficial school enrollment figures for the 1971-72 school year have been compiled after the first few days of school. Total enrollment for kindergarten through the 12th grade for the Polk - Lincoln - Johnson School Corporation was announced by Dr. Edward Powell superintendent of schools at 1,277, down 21 from last year for the first week of school figures. Walkerton Elementary schools, kindergarten through third grade, totals 380 with kindergarten, 85* frst, 104; second, 93 and third, 98. Tyner elementary has fourth grade, 93; fifth, 109 for a total of 202. Urey Middle School has 313 students with sixth grade, 112; seventh, 103 and eighth,. 98. The four grades at John Glenn High School have 382 enrolled with ninth, 124; tenth, 95; eleventh, 93 and twelfth, 70. ST. PATRICK ELEMENTARY TO HAVE INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION Indvidualized instruction techniquea in the teachng of two subjects at all grade levels will be introduced, as school opem this year, in 21 elementary parochial schools in Indiana and Illinois conducted by the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis. St. Patrick Elementary School in Walkerton, is one of them. Spelling, mat hme tics, social studies and English are the options that teachers have for Choosing the two subjects, according to Sister Mary Relinette, on of the school supervisors for this religious community. She conducted an institute for some 200 teachers and principals of he 21 schools August 23 and 25 at Our Lady of the Snows Elementary School, Chicago. Candidates Chosen For Town Election The Republican and Democrat parties held caucuses recently in the Town of North Liberty and following is a list of candidates that were chosen for this fall’s election on November 2. Dr. Arthur Hansen To Speak At Ag Alumni Roundup Dr. Arthur G. Hansen. Purdue University's new president, will be princpal speaker at the Kankakee Valley Purdue Ag Alumni Roundup Thursday, September 23, at Valparasio University. Dinner will be at 7 p.m. in the University Student Center. Gene Rice Wanatah Farmer will serve as master of cere, monies and diners will see the Theater *7l variety show. The loundup is open to husband and wives Nine counties make up the Kankakee Valley group and they are Like, Porter, LaPorte Starke, Jasper, Pulaski, Newton, St. Joseph and Marshall. Dr. Hansen became Purdue's president last June 30 following the retirement of Dr. Hovde. He resigned as president of Georgia Tech to take the top administrative post at hi s alma mater. TOWN APPROVES LEVY Walkerton's proposed levy of $2.52 for the town's general fund will raise $62,941.30 and was approved Monday, August 30 by the board. notice"” Polk Township budget will have a hearing on September 14 at the Marshall County tax adjustment board meeting. North Liberty Football Schedule The North Liberty Shamrocks football schedule for this year 13 as follows: September 11 — Jim town, at Jackson field, NSC conference, September 17 — Triton, there. September 25 — Knox, Jackson field. October 1— John Glenn (share game) there, NSC conference game. October 8 — South Central, there. October 16 — Fairfield, Jackson field, NSC conference. October 22 — New Prairie, Jackson field, NSC conference. October 29 — LaVille (share game), there, NSC conference. All games start at 7:30 with the exception of Knox and New Prairie, which start at 8:00. CILIMBER TO RESUME • MEETINGS THURSDAY The Walkerton Chamber of Commerce will open their fall season Thursday (today) with a luncheon meeting at 12:00 noon at Heil's Restaurant. Some new plans to strengthen the Chamber and the town and surrounding area will be announced at this meeting. It is hoped that all interested persons will attend. FALCONS HOST FAIRFIELD IN FOOTBALL OPENER John Glenn's Falcons will open their regular football season Friday night with a home game against the Fairfield Falcons. Season tickets and the combination football and basketball season ticket for both students and adults are still available, SHAMROCKS HOST MMTOWN TEAM AT JACKSON FIELD North Liberty will host Jimtown in their first regular game of the season Saturday night at the Jackson field at 7:30 p.m. Jimtown was Northern States Conference champions last year and despite heavy losses by gr iduation, have another good team to field this season.
