Community Club Hears Speaker
It isn’t every speaker who in eludes her talk with a song, but that is what the Women's Community Club of Walkerton heard at their meeting on Friday, No*vember 20. In a frank manner Mrs. William Babb told how she became a Christian. Although her paternal grandfather was a pilgrim Holiness minister, she was born into a family who had no faith. Finally she and her sisters became Christians and all eventually married ministers. It developed that one day a friend of hers invited her to church, and it was here she later met the man who was to become her husband. Kev. William Babb, now the pastor of the Wesleyan Church, Walkerton. She said she never dreamed that she would end up in a parsonage. Mrs. Babbs subject was "Does Jesus Really Care For Me?” She quoted the following scriptures which she said provided the answer to her question: John 3:16, Romans, 3:23, John 1: 1-9, Matthew 11:28. and 1 Peter, 1:5 7. She described Christianan. ity as the life of God in Man. She said "If you shut Him out ou can't get to know him He is air teacher, God and friend. Let ■um be what He really wants to be." At the conclusion of her talk Mrs. Babb sang: "Does Jesus Really Care?" She particularly isked that the women listen to the words of the song to find the answer, Mrs. Chester Griffin, president, having recovered from her recent accident was at her post to welcome the group Thanksgiving devotions were gi ven by Mrs. Oscar Barney who told that it is to the Puritan Fathers of our nation we owe the custom of observing annually a day of prayer and Thanksgiving She quoted from the address of Moses found in the Bth Chapter of Deuteronomy which he delivered to his people on the eve of their entering the promise land This address, she said, could just as well been given to our

It was voted to use the money normally spent on a personal gift exchange for this program. It was told thet the Geneeral Federation of Women's Club's had announced a new conserve Vat ion program co sponsored by the Shell Oil Cmpany, to be known as the Shell Environmen tl Responsibility Program The Cluu was urged to survey the com munity and find where the greatest need lies Members were further urged to personify their environmental responsibility by participating in this importont program. The presdent named Mrs. Roy Newell, Mrs. Milton Gerry and Mrs. J. F. Spencer to the nom-
inating committee. Members who signed to wrap gifts at Beatty Hospital were informed the date set was December 15, 9:00 to 3:00 CST. Each person was askea to bring scissors, wrapping paper, tape and ribbon. It was announced a Inch would be provided for 50c.
