Shamrocks Drop Game Os Errors To Cougars 26-13 In a game of breaks Friday night at Jackson Fie.d, North Liberty's Shamrocks were ab c to only cash in tw.ee in six attempts while th? Cougars of New Prairie made the best of two on both occasions and went on to a second had victory 2U13. The Cougars complete.y outplayed the Shamrocks on offense but were victims of their own errois to be forced to come from bet hind with four second half TD s. The Shamrocks kicked off and got their first real break early in the game when .Mike Engel fumbled on the second p.ay from scrimmage. Mark Shearer covered the loose ball and the s.tuation was first and 10 on the Cougar 31, but the Shamrocks only picked up two yards m the first four plays. After gain.ng three fust downs in succession and moving to the Shamrock 41, a short punt resulted In the Shamrocks getting the ball aga.n but once more had to give it up on downs. A bombing 58 yard punt by De von Ross backed the Cougars deep in their own territory and alter four pays of gams of 22. 2, 23 and 33, they had moved from their own 6 to the Shamrock 12 before Engel once again fumbled and this tune it was Kent Beigland who pounced on the free ball for the drive stopping play. The Shamrocks then gained a first down on a face mask vio»tion and another on a 10 yard puss followed by a 6 yard run for their only first downs in the first half. Once again a punt was needed to get them out of trouble and three plays later, the Cougars fumbled again with Devon Rosa recovering on the 31 of New ITairie. Nothing devei oped here and the Shamrocks had to wait until break number 4 followed an exchange of punts. This tune, Bill Snyder wasted no tune in taking adv mtage of the Cougar miscue. W.th a third and 14 from their own 37 facing New Prairie very late in the halt, a screen piss was called and Snyder got on the receiving end and waltzed 25 yard for an easy score This came with just 1:16 kit on the dock an J Devon Ross booted the extra point to give a 7-0 halftime lead to the underdog Shamrocks. The breaks started going the other way right at Die kickoff of the second half. After the Shamrocks elected to receive, a big surprise came when the New 1 Prairie captains elected to kick into a pretty stiff wind. This turned out to be the smartest dumb call in h loyg time when Bill Coddens high kick was he.d up in the wind and dropped well in front of the deep receivers and just behind the short men to be recovered by the Cougars’ Engel. Taking advantage of the first and 10 on the Shamrock 27. it took just four plays and a little over a minute until Barry Halter crashed in from the two yard line. The extra point attempt for two points was no good and the Shamrocks still held the slim lead of 7 6. After failing to get their offence moving, the Shamrocks were forced to give up the bid once again on y this time the Cougars started to gr.nd it out on the ground Starting on their own IS, 12 running plays moved the bail to the Shamrock 16 and a 32 yard field goal attempt by Cullens went w.de to the left. Once aga.n it was three tries mid punt foi North Liberty o: y this time the second play fiom (continued on back page)
