The particular case was brought to our attention by the United Telephone Co., but the prob lem is everyone’s, not just that one company. The entire reason for this dis. appearance is “Vandalism!” Yes. the “cute” little acts of those who have no respect for someone else’s property, is the reason behind this problem. This may hot be an earthshattering J^Ct to many people. but the convenience of a phone booth could someday be as serious as a matter of life and death to a person and not being able to locate one as easily as one is accustomed to in past years could prove serious. Plans are underway to have it open by November. —MS G — Thousands of Hoosier parents and other citizens interested in the schools are expected to make their own “assessment of education” October 25-31 during the national observance of American Education Week —MS G — There really is something magical about Halloween now that millions of American child ren, including many here in the area celebrate October 31st through Trick or Treat for UNICEF. Magical because, by their generous response, adults bridge the generation gap. uniting with youngsters in a common effort to aid the less fortunate children of the developing nations Magical because helping the Un.ted Nations Childrens Fund to cure the sick feed the hungry, and educate the untrained and illiterate is one important step toward eliminating the difference between the worlds haves and have-nots. Magical because the coins that are dropped into those black and orange I NICEF cartons add up to millions of dol u s i $3,250,000 last year i for UNICEF s world wide heath. nutr.tion and education programs Magical because for a single penny I NTCEF can supply the vaccine to protect a child against smallpox or tuberculosis; because one mcke. buys the anubiut.c
ointment to cure a case of trachoma; because a dime translates into seed to sow 200 feet of vitar nun-rich carrot row; because a quarter pays for an education kit for a primary school child. Yes, UNICEF's Trick o r Treat ta reaLy magic made by everyman. woman and child who par tit ipates in the Halloween collection. We hope that all the citizens will become magicians this year. —MS G — Voice Os The People Mr. Businessman, We have heard many times what a wonderful thing it would be to be annexed into town Then why when the board drew up the boundry lines did it conveniently exclude property belonging to a membe r of the board? I would think he would want to be included too. We do not feel that 4 men have the right to tell approximately 40 families where they have to live. If these men had approached us with their plans maybe we wouldn't feel the way we do now. Their plans were all unde r way before most of us knew anything about it Its to bad the board isn't devoting more time to improving what they already have instead of trying to take on more problems. If you feel that people outside the city limits should not use the facilities and conveniences of the town, then South Bend should annex Walkerton because a large percent of our town makes its lively hood in South Bend including some of the board members. Why do some of the board members have their businesses in South Bend we need them here. Do you honestly feel that there is so much business in Walkerton. that everyone outside the city limits should be excused from doing any trading in town It's true my husband is employed by the town (part time) but we have lived outside the limits when he was hired, why does it make a difference now. If you feel that everyone employed by the town should live m town, then you better check again! You apparently are afraid the people of Walkerton don’t agree with your views or you would have signed your letter. Mr. and Mrs John McGovern Jr. To The Longtime Businessman You state your opinions yet you must not be very proud of them as you did not sign your name. I think that you should become familiar with what the Town of Walkerton has to offer before you condemn us who live outside the town limits. The fire protection you talk about would be no different in or out of town due to the fact that it is a Townsh.p Fire Department. Town water, yes the town would be able to provide, but we

have our own and don't nee. The Town Board of Walk* ad used us that they would be able to provde a sewer sy for us for at least 20 years besides there are people ir. town limits even now’ who no sewer system as yet. As far as police protects don't th.nk I have to worry a that! If your opinion represents of the businessmen in town if you don't want our bus unless we are annexed ther will oblige you and go someu else to do our shopping. And it also seems very str to me that one of the 1 Board members passed his I and will not be included in annexed area, therefore he not be able to reap all the derful benefits that you will be available!
