Walkerton Lions Club will meet at the Community Building. North Liberty Order of Eastern Star will meet. Thursday, October jE9 Star Neighborhood will meet. Business and Professional Women will meet. Knights of Columbus will meet. Zeta Pi Holds Inspection Zeta Pi chapter of Tri Kappa held thei r biennial inspection on October 14. in the home of Mrs. Richard Carter. Mrs. Richard Bodine. I’rovince Ten officer, and guest Mrs. L Charles Wayne, attended. Mrs Bodine gave a report on Tri Kappa activities on a state level Tri Kappa is financing several projects for the burn ward at Riley Hospital, such as, a carrousel in the foyer and rotating pictures for children who must lie on their back constantly. Mrs. Bodine radiated so much enthusiasm when she spoke about Tri Kappa that we felt "Happiness is Being a Tri Kappa.’’ A thank you card was received from the local kindergarten with each student printing their name for the cardboard lacing shoes that were given to the class so they might learn to tie their own shoes. Zeta Pi will have charge of food service at a local public sale. The proceeds will be used in the community. Plans for a spring style show are in progress.
BOY SCOUTS CAMPOREE Twenty-one Boy Scouts from Troop 37 joined about eighty others from the Kankakee Valley District at the Boy Scout Camporee over the weekend. Troop 37, under the leadership of Scoutmaster Harry Harness, is comprised of boys from Hamlet, Grovertown and Koontz Lake. The Camporee covened at 5 o'clock on Friday evening and broke camp on Saturday at 8 pm The hundred or so boys spent the tune competing for honors in 1 six events: flap jack making, scout pace, running broad jump, i relay race, fire with flint and i steel and setting up tents. There were 15 winners in all, the top I honor going to Troop 37’s Hawk I Patrol. Troop 30 of LaPorte received 2nd and 3rd prize awards and one patrol of Troop 88 of LaPorte came in 4th. Troop 37 also took sth, 6th and 7th prize awards The awards were presented at a campwide campfire with Tom ' Bell, Honorary Chairman of the Camporee officiating. The Camporee took place at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Hamlet DIXIE WALKERS Our regular club dance was held Saturday. October 17 and Jim. our caller, put us through some very tricky manuevers We 1 had visiting couples from Roch- ' ester. Twirlaways and Three 1 Oaks. Sunday, October 18, the chib ’ started 'square dance lessons at : the Community Building and will I continue to give lessons for 10 i weeks The time is 7:30 to 9:30 every Sunday and anyone interested is welcome.
Next Saturday the Club will travel to Three Oaks and also Twirlaways. Our next dance will be October 31. 8:00 to 11:00 at the John Glenn High School with Bob Cone calling. RELIEVES BRONZE STAR MEDAL U.S Army, Vietnam (AHTNC) Oct. 13 Army Sergent Danny E Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack E. Taylor, 65125 Grant St. Lakeville, Ind . recently recieved the Bronze Star Medal in Vietnam. He was presented the Bronze Sta r medal for distinguishing himself through meritorious service in connection with military operations against hostle forces in Vietnam. The Medal, adopted in 1944. recognizes outstanding achievement Sgt Taylor received the award while assigned as a supply sergeant with Headquarters Company. Ist Battalion, sth Cavalry Division (Airmobilel. He entered the Army in May 1969. completed basic training at Fort I on ard Wood, Mo . and was last stationed at Ft Ord, Calif.
