Falcons Fall To Cougars By 45-0 Score John Glenn's Falcons were litprly pushed all over the field Friday night hs the New Prairie Cougars muscled them up one side and down the other on their way to a big 45-0 victory. The Cougars size advantage, which appeared to be 25 to 30 pounds a man in the interior lines, used this brute strength to assemble an awesome ground attack as they waltzed away with the win. The loss dropped the Falcons to a 3 - 2 -1 record for the season and was their third game in a row without a victory after winning their first three. The Falcons again lost the fkp and had to kick off. Returning the ball to the 35. the Cougars got a first down on the opening play as Bob Hennen tore lose for 26 yards. However, a fumble on the next play was covered by Mike Ameling and the Falcons took over on their own 41 On the second play, a Falcon fumble was covered by Bruce Nickerson and the Cougars had the ball nght hack, still on the 41 yard line. It took just eight running plays to rat up the distance with Hennen get. ting the final three yards for the score. Bill Coddens rammed the conversion attempt over for the two points and it was 8-0 with 6.48 left in the opening period. The Falcons took possession late in the opening quarter and seemed to have a little momenteum building up as they gained three first downs and moved the ball to the New Prairie 14 yard line. On a second down play, a holding call pushed the Falcons back to the 29 and then a Jinj Lute pass was picked off by Mike Engel and he returned the tsa.ll to the Falcon six yard line before a 15 yard unsportsman like penalty was called that cost the (’ougais 15 from that point It took the Cougars five plays on the ground to get in the end zone with Jay Gilpin dashing in from four yards out Again the conversion was good for two as 4i fumble was recovered in the end zone for another two points. This made it 16 with 5:48 left in the half and this was the real turning point as the Cougars really dominated play from this point on. On the first p'ay after the kickoff another Falcon fumble was recovered by the Cougars and it took three plays for their next score. They added one more before the end of the half, g< ttmg a scor* on the final p’ay to m ike it 28 0 at the main mterml*B:<m In the second half the Falcons used mostly underclassmen as coach Fujawa took a look t his younger boys New Prairie kicked a field goal with 656 left in the third per.od when Coddens boomed one through from 26 yards out. Their next score came later that quarter as Engel intercepted a John Harness pass and moved 26 yards for the score New Prairie's reserve unit p eked up their final touch down with 1 19 left in the game as Gary Curlcss pushed one m from 11 yards out The d uninancc of the size or New Prairie shows up in the statistics us their big line not only pushed G’enn s defense all over, but curtailed the offense from sustaining any drives except the one brief time in the first half •IG Statist <s M» 5 Fust Downs 17 62 Rushing 297 19 Passing 33 11 Passes Attempted 3

Shamrocks Lose By Extra Point Saturday Night A run by Dan Marks for the two point conversion with just 1:50 left in the football game, broke a 6-6 tie that had just been achieved by South Central to hand the North Liberty Shamrocks their fourth defeat m five games this year ind take some of the lustre from the 1970 II miecoming festivities. The game was played at the Jackson Reid at South Bend. The Shamrocks had moved to a 6-0 lead in the opening period as Jeff Wesolek raced across the goal line from 24 yards out. A conversion run failed, but the lead held up until the late touchdown tied the score and then the all-important extra point run put the winning margin on the board for the Satellites. The Shamrocks gained yardage all night long on the ground as they ran for a very good total of 230 net yards. However, the diversification of attack was not present as only two of 13 passes were complete and two big interceptions by Matt Yagelski in the final period hurt. South Central, on the other hand, blended their passing and running game well, picking up 121 yards on the ground and 116 m the air.
