New York, former Walkerton High School student. ‘Helio to a l the folks back home in Ind.ana.’ Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Taylor of Monroe, Michigan visited his sister, Mrs. Esther Kaufman last week. They also ca led on Mrs Emma Zigler and Mr. and Mrs. Amos B.erly and other relatives and friends. Mr. Otto Schmeltz, Char'es Cripe. Elmer Walters and Clarence Walters returned Saturday from a weeks fishing in Hayard Wisconsin. They had no big fish stor.es to tell as the weather wSs to uncooperative. Mrs. Harley Knowlton, Mrs. Harold McGwin. Mrs. Wesley Pavey and Mrs. Roy Freeman attended District I Farm Bureau Women's workshop and flower show at W.namac on Tuesday, September 15 Mrs. Hazel Foulks and son, Lloyd, of Ft. Wayne and Mrs. DeDxss Baird, of Flint. Michigan, were recent vis tors of Mrs. Faye Jones and fami y. Mr. and Mrs Arthur Schmeltz and family and Mrs. Otto Schmeltz were in Fort Wayne recently visiting Mr. and Mrs. Pau'. Kolmer and family. Mrs. Otto Schmeltz stayed for a week while Mr. Schmeltz was on a fishing trip. Koontz Lake Conservation-Club pot luck supper Saturday, September 26 at 5:30 with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Webster as hosts for the evening, Followed by a socia' hour. Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Klopfenstein were Allen Rushton of Great Lakes and George Matz. Mrs. Klopfensteins father, who was celebra ting his 81 st birthday. Mrs. Albert Huhnke Jr., Mrs. Everett Baker. Mrs. Delbert Jacob and Mrs. Bertha, Urbm were in Garrett last Wednesday to spend the day with Mrs. Ilie, Tarlton. Mrs. Faye Jones returned to her home after spending the past week with relatives and friends in Fort Wayne. Mis. Northern Masonic Jurisdlstion will be in session from September 24 thru October 1 in Milwaukee. Attending the session with the Hershbergers will be Mr. and Mrs. Harry Doll and Dr. and Mrs. Burdette Wo f, of Sebring, F.orida, who came to Walkerton last week for a visit before gomg to Wisconsin. Both Mr. Doll and Dr. Wo fe have received th.s high honor. All three are mem bers of the Walkerton F & AM Lodge No. 619. Miss Bowers Among 23 Semi-Finalists Miss Ramona Bowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bow: ers, route 3, Walkerton, is among the twenty-three seniors in St. Joseph County competing in the 1970 71 National Merit Scholarship competition and a semi finalist. The winners will not be announced until May and are chosen on the basis of scholastic aptitude tests. Finalists are competing for SI,OOO Scho arsh ps which are one time awards payable to the winner upon entry to college. Finalists will also be considered from some 2.000 renewable spon sored Merit Scholarships worth up to $1,500 per year for up to four years.
