Mrs. Nellie Ullery spent last Thursday with her sister, Mrs. Walter Granning, at LaPaz. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Arnold returned home last week from Osseo, Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Taylor epent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Whitaker at Lake of the Woods. Last Saturday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schultz were their daughter and grandson, Mrs. Ruth Norton and Peter, of South Bend. Guests of Mrs. Myrtle Donathen several days last week were her daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Alex Hildebrand and Linda of Avon, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Beron of North Liberty called on Mr. and Mrs. Chester Thayer at LaPaz on Sunday afternoon and Mr. and Mrs. Clause McEndarter in North Liberty. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hay, Marls and Dana and Mrs. Inez Hay spent Saturday and Sunday with Ed Hay at his cottage at Diamond Lake. The Over 60 Clum will be at the North Liberty Park on Wed. nesday, September 9 at 12 noon with a dinner. Bring your own silverware, food to be served and a hungry friend. Plates, cups and drink will be furnished. James O. Fair has enrolled for the fall term at Taylor University, Upland, Indiana. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James O. Fair Sr., route 1, Walkerton, and a 1970 graduate of North Liberty High School. New' student w'eek opened on Sunday, August 30, with a convocation for students and parents. Various tests, auditions and counseling sessions were conducted during the week with social hours planned for evenings at Taylor Lake and in the gymnasium.

Mr. and Mrs. Leland Donathen, Jim and Karen returned home last Tuesday from a vacation trip to Colorado and other places of interest. Mrs. Truman Luke of Granger spent last Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Gary Shade, Kurt and Neal. Mrs. Shade is the daughter of Mrs. Luke. A son, Dale Edward, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Dreessen, Hamlet, at the Osteopathic Hospital in South Bend on August 19. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Steele and Jill of North Liberty, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Gatner of Walkerton, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Parsons and Brian of Niles, Mich., were Sunday afternoon visitors of Mrs. Edith Steele. A son W’as born to Mr. and Mrs. Gary Shade on August 18 in the E Street Division hospital, L Porte. He has been named Neal Arthur. Mrs. Thomas Perry' and Joey of Crandon, Wisconsin were guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Jones of St. Road 23. Mr. Perry spent the week end here and they returned home on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Knowtlon of North Liberty, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Knowlton and family, of Walkerton, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Knowlton and family attended the Baker reunion at Ft. Recovery, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Peterson have received word that their daughter, Marilyn, will be entering the hospital on September 8 for surgery. The WMS of the First Brethren Church will meet this Friday, Sept. 4, at the home of Mrs. Arlene Oberly, Wyatt. An interesting program has been planned featuring Mrs. Emily Allison who wrote the feature of the Outlook this week. The meeting will get underway at 7:30. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Knowlton returned last Thursday from a six day vacation trip near Bronson. Missouri. They also visited Silver Dollar City, Shepherd of the Hills and Meramac Cave. Mrs. Frances Baker, of North Liberty, and her daughter, Mrs. Betty McCrune and family, of Chesterton, returned home from Marion, Montana where they w’ere visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Geyer, Pine Road, returned home Monday evening from a vacation trip of several days in the Smokey Mountains and also at North Carolina and Virginia. They stopped for the week end| in Cincinnati with their daughter and son-i! law, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald O’Dell. LABOR DAY HORSE SHOW The Big Labor Day Horse Show at Kingsdale Academy at Koontz Lake will sponsor the St. Joseph County 4-H Drill Team at 2:30 p.m. Also, the Duane Drake Kennels, Route 3 Plymouth, will present a Border Collie Sheep Dog demonstration at 1:00 p.m. For information you may contact the Academy at Box 398, Route 1, Koontz Lake. Kingsdale Academy is just now completing a large indoor riding arena for winter active ties of training and boarding horses. The 30 member 4-H Drill team Is under the leadership of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Newhart, 45101 Ironwood Drive, South Bend. They started the drill team in 1962. They have shown many places including International Livestock, South Bend Police Show, LaPorte, Ind. Fair, Michigan Fair, LaGrange and Kankakee, Illinois, Indiana State Fair , and many other places.
