North Liberty School Opening Dates Set North Liberty High and Elemtary Schools will open officially Tuesday, September 8, at 8:05 a.m. The first day students will remain for only an hour and will be dismissed at 9:10 am. Beginning Wednesday, September 9, students will report at 8:15 am. and remain for the entire day with dismissal scheduled at 3:15 p.m. New teachers will report to their respective buildings at 8:00 a.m., Monday. August 31. for a week of orientation to the school and corporation. Returning teachers will report to their assigned buildings on Wednesday, September 2. The cafeteria will begin serving lunches Wednesday. September 9, with lunch prices of 35c for the elementary and 40c for grades 8 through 12. As Students were informed by Mr. Hosinski last spring, schedule changes could be made only up to August 20. except in serious emergencies. The class Schedule was made on the basis of the class selections the students made last spring and class lists and student program cards have been printed. North Liberty To Play In Jamboree For the second year, North Liberty’s football team and band will participate in the South Bend Community School Jamboree to to be held at School Field Friday, September 4, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be sold in advance by all band members and at the North Liberty High School and Elementary School offices. Arrangements have been made for the high school band to retain one-half of the income from tickets sold in advance of the game by the band members. The balance of the proceeds will be deposited in the Unified Athltiec Fund to assist member schools who are unable to meet their athletic budgets. We urge all football fans and band parents to support their team and band by buying tickets for this extravaganza. Bus tickets may be purchased for the Jamboree either from Mr. Gowin, or at the elementary or high school offices. Admission price is SI.OO. To Observe 25th Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Nelson A. Saylor will be honored on their Silver Wedding Anniversary with an open house at their home at Fish Lake, on Sunday, August 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. CST. The Saylor’s were married on August 28, 1945 at Elkhart and have lived in the Fish Lake area since that time. The open house will be staged by their daughter, Louise and their son, Arthur. No invitations have been issued. All relatives and friends are cordially invited. NOTICE The Fellowship Class of the United Methodist Church, Walkerton. will have their cla>s party on Friday. Lions Club To Meet Sept. 2 The president, Jack Tiede, of the Walkerton Lion's Club has called for n meeting of the club for Wednesday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Youth Building It is urgent that every member make an effort to be in attendance. There is much work that needs our immediate attention. One of the jobs is soliciting of names for the upcoming Birthday Calendar, which is to to be completed by September 26. We note in the 'Hoosier Lion' that Rome City has already completed their calendar solicitation and sale. President, Dr. Robert D. Me Cullough of the Lions International. in his inaugural address par-ticullarly stressed INVOLVEMENT in service by each Lion member. Car-Truck Crash Is Fatal To Walkerton Man Dewey J. Wise, Jr., 38. 905 Ohio St., Walkerton, died late Friday night when his auto colided with a semi-trailer truck east of Walkerton on U. S. 6. Wise died of head and chest injuries when his car was hit by a truck driven by Phil L. Hartman, route 5. Goshen. Wise was dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital. South Bend. Indiana State Police said that Wise’s eastbound car was either turning left or crossed over the centerline and was struck by the westbound truck in the westbund lane. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Nusbaum Funeral Home, Walkerton, with Rev. Ken Bergner, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. He was born April 14. 1932. in Jefferson County, Tenn , and came here three years ago from Morristown. Tenn. On April 17, 1966, in Kankakee, 111., he married Norma Larimore who survives. Also surviving are his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Wise, of Tennessee; a son. James By 4m Wise, of Gas City, a step son. Br uce Allen Larimore, at home; a daughter, Miss Robin Darlene Wise, ot Gas City; five brothers, Hugh, of Converse. Ind., Robert, of Summitville. Homer, of Swayze, Austin, of Danridge. Tenn., and Leon, serving witii the Army in Vietnam, and a sister, Mrs. Betty Switcher, of Greentown, Ind. Harold Devon Ruby Harold Devon (Towhead) Ruby. 55. of 700 Ohio Street, Walkerton, died at 9:05 am. Wednesday, August 19, at E Street Division Hospital, Li Porte after suffering'an apparent heart attack. He was a heavy equipment operator for the St. Joseph County Highway Department. Born April 27. 1915 in Walkerton. he lived in Walkerton all his life On December 15, 1934 in South Bend he married Leia Holderread, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Harold John of Plymouth, Kenneth Ernest of Culver, and Richard Dean of Indianapolis; a daughter. Mrs. Linda Bell of Teegarden; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Russell of Walkerton; and two sisters, Mrs. George Smith of Koontz Lake and Mrs. Howard Decker of East Chicago, Indiana. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church. Rev. Harold E. Williams. pastor, and Rev. Paul McBride. pastor of Blissville Church of the Brethren, officiated. Burial was m Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. Mr. Ruby was a veteran of World War 11, and a member of the Walkerton Volunteer Fire Dept, and the Walkerton Lodge 619 F. AA. M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund. Charles L Ferverda Charles Lewis Ferverda, 44, Hollywood. Cal., died at 2 pm. (Pacific time), Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Hollywood, following an extended illness. A former Walkerton resident, he was born May 2, 1926 at Leesburg and went to California 13 years ago. Survivors include his parents Mr. and Mrs. George Ferverda, Walkeiton; two sistrrs. Mrs Peggy Lummis, Studio City. Calif.; and Mrs. Martha Keeling. Walkerton. PLJ Schedule Os Regular Board Meetings Released from the office of the Superintendent of the Polk-Lincoln-Johnson School Corporation was the dates set for the regular board meetings of the corporation for 1970 1971. The meeting dates have been set for Tuesdays and on October ber 6 and 20; November 3 and 17; December 8 and 22; January 5 and 19; February 2 and 1 March 2 and 16; April 6 and 20 and in May on the 4 and 18th. S. Elementary School Teacher degree during the summer commencement exercises on Friday. Thursday, with RevKen Bergner. pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating Burial will be at Leesburg Cemetary. Mrs. Bertha Barrett Mrs. Bertha A Barrett, 76. Tyner, died at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday August 18, at the home of hei brother. Rev. Arthur Skinner, ot Tyner. Rev. Skinner is pastor of the Tyner Weslyan Church Mrs. Barrett was born April 25, 1891 at Clinton. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Otha Barrett. Surviving with her brother are two step children at Anderson. Funeral services were conducted at 2 pjm. Friday at the Copher and Fesler Funeral home, Elwood. Burial was at Phix Cemetery, near Elwood. Mrs. Helen Pope Funeral services for Mrs. Helen M. Pope, 90, Rt. 4, LaPorte. were held at 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Nusbaum Funeral Home with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. Rev. Edward A. Meyer, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church LaPorte. officiated. Mrs. Pope died at 6:30 am. Saturday at Walkerton, following an extended illness. She was born November 25, 1879. at Holstein, Germany, and had resided in the Walkerton area since 1904. coming here from Germany. She was married February 3. 1901, at Holstein to Martin Pope who preceeded her in death on January 3. 1957. Mrs Pope was a member of the Johnson Town ship Women’s Club. Survivors include three daughters; Mrs. Cecil Bowers. LaPorte Mrs. Martha Mull and Mrs Chailes Daube, both of Wakerton; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two brothers: Herman Dreessen. Kimball. S D ; and Kari Dreessen. Germany, one sister. Mrs Minnie Berries, Germany; and one nephew.

Each member is asked to bring a dish of her choice and place settings for herself and guest. This will be the first meeting with the new president, Mrs. Chester Griffin, presiding. A special program celebrating the Club's 50th Birthday has been planned for the April 16th meeting.
