Delegate To K Os C National Convention * * W '' ' ’ ^>l’4 WB \ e * ^•^kA l* -’ 'WB Harry Malstaff, route 3, Walkerton, retiring District Deputy of District 6, is a national delegate to the 88th Supreme Convention of the Knights of Columbus being held at Houston, Texas. Mr. Malstaff will return home on Thursday, August 27. The host for the convention is the Texas State Council of Knights of Columbus and the convention will center around the Shamrock Hilton Hotel. A reception with civic, state and county officials of Texas greeted the guests. On Saturday and Sunday the delegated will be taken to the famed Astro Dome to view the games between the Houston Oilers vs the New Orleans Saints

Mr. Malstaff left South Bend on Saturday by plane for Chicago and then on to Houston. Harry has served as District Deputy three years, he has been past Grand Knight at the St. Patrick Council 5709. Walkerton and previously served in office at Father Tremmel Council 1975. Plymouth, when he was one of four men to organize the Walkerton Council in 1961 as the first Columbus Club in the State of Indiana, chartered a year later as a council. He was instrumental in purchasing and redecorating the council chamber at Walkerton, was selected as Outstanding Catholic Laymen of the year in 1967, and is a member of Father Neuwland Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Johnson Accepts Coaching Jeb At Howell, Michigan Jerry Johnson, a graduate of Walkerton High School and son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson, W r alkerton. has accepted a teaching and coching job in Howell, Michigan. Johnson will teach math and be head basketball coach and junior varsity football coach at Howell High School. Johnson received his BA degree from Western Michigan University in 19C2 and his Masters from that sahie school in 1966. From 1962 through 1965 he was an elementary and junior high coach in‘the Penn-Har-ris-Madison school system. From 1965-1967. he was Junior varsity basketball coach and junior high football coach at Jimtown High School. In 1967. he accepted the position of head b isketball. track and cross country coach at Howe Military School. position to accept the Howell job. The Johnsons and their five children, moved to Howell, Michigan August 1. ED POWELL WINS METHODIST GOLF MEET Dr. Ed Powell, local Supeilntendent of Schools, shot a 37 at the Whispering Pine Golf Course to win the United Methodist Golf Open last Monday evening. A large trophy was presented to the winned by Kay Chapman. Runner up was Bill Baker with 37. Other participants who had low scores were John Bellinger, Wayne Cover, Sonny Cripe. Jeff Jacob. Francis McMahon. Branson Hiatt and Bill Hornaday. Rollie Hess was the handicap winer with 63. Awards were presented to Sonny Cripe for the longest drive and to Clyde Bick for the closest to the hole. Wayne Cover won the putting contest and Bill Hornaday the chipping contest. Booby prizes were given to Agnew Ludwig and John McCombs. Others who won awards were Bill Baker, John Bellinger, Greg Bellinger, Ray Chapman, Bob Gardner, and Keith (Red) Knepper. The event was open to members and friends of the church. There were approximately 40 men who participated in this event. Special guest for the affair was Dr. Donald McMahan, Superintendent of the South Bend District of the United Methodist

Church. It has already been decided to make this an annual event of the United Methodist Church of Walkerton. Those in charge of setting up the event for this year were Glenn Jacob. Ray Chapman and Harold Williams and John Bellinger. ( — 1 1 ■' I ODD FELLOW AND ’ REBEKAH PUNK The Odd Fellow and Rebekah Lodges and their families will hold their annual picinic on Sunday. August 23rd at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wiliam DePoy at Koontz Lake. There will be a pot luck dinner at noon. Members bring food, table service for their families, also prizes for bunco.
