The Misses Kathy, Luan and Julia Whitaker of Lakeville spent Friday afternoon with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Taylor. Church softball game this Thursday night will be against the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren. Game time is at 7 p.m. Last Thursday, Mrs. Bertha Schrader accompanied Mrs. Joe Vargo of South Bend to Osseo, Michigan where they spent an enjoyable day with Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Shade. The Shade's were reside nts of Liberty Township some years ago. Lt. Col. and Mrs. Charles Summers and family. Cliff. Jean and Vicki of Colorado Springs, Colorado aie guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gale Merrick and family and other relatives. On leaving here, the Summers family will be moving to Germany where Lt. Col. ■Summers wri! be stationed a dentist in the service. Dennis Sheneman returned to his home in Denver, Colorado, after spending a week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sheneman. He visited also with his uncle. Cleo and h s sister and family. Mr. and Mis. Gone Patrick and daughter Tammy. Mr. and Mis. Sheneman spent Monday evening with the Patricks.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hagquist of South Bend called on Mrs. Nellie Smith Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Strope spent Sunday afternoon with their sister-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Strope of Nappanee. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bailey and family of Goshen and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Whitelea'ther and daughters spent Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Esther Harman. Honoring Mrs. Laura Holderman Muller. New York. Mrs. Lura Pommert entertained Tues day with a luncheon at Schorls Restaurant at Plymouth. Guests were Mrs. Muller. Mis. Grace Firms. Dove Reid of Mishawaka, Miss Nell Collar, Mrs. Ruth Collar and Mrs. Frances Slattery. The afternoon was spent in the home of Mrs. Slattery. All were members of the North Libei ty High School class of 1915. Mr. and Mrs. William Banks and family of West Burlington. lowa were week end guests of Mrs. Bank’s mother, Mrs. Sterling Amm. S aturday evening supper guests of Mrs. Amm were the Banks family and a daughter, Mis. Fred Biggs and family of South Bond also Fred Biggs, son of Mrs. Biggs who is home on furlough from the service where he is stationed in Marvland.
Mrs. Joseph Newton of St. Rd. 23 returned home from Memorial Hospital on feunday where she is conva losing. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Finch and family of Porter County, route 1, Westville, have moved into their m w residence on S. Jefferson Street, North Liberty. Mrs. Myrtle Donathen was accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Alex Hildebrand, Kathy and Dale where Mrs. Donathen had been visiting the Hilderbrands in Avon •Ohio for six weeks. Mrs. Charles Quigley of North Liberty and her sister, Miss Amy Larly of Washington. D. C., visited Mrs. Alma Vanwinkle at Timber Crest Home, North Manchester. Mi. and Mrs. DuWayne Whitmer and sons returned Sunday from a vacation. Places of interest visited were the Wisconsin Dells, Mackinac Brdge, Petosky, Traverse City and other scenic spots. Jill Knowlton celebrated her Bth birthday with twenty-one relatives as guests on Thursday. July 16. (Refreshments of ice (ream and a cake decorated as a clown wore served. Alf Albright is a surgical patient in the Pine Lake Division Hospital, LaPorte. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Sheneman were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gale Merrick at South Bend. Mrs. Laura Ruff and granddaughters, Cindy and Shari Kidder of North Liberty were recent visitors of Mrs, Esther Harman. . The WMS of the First Brethren Church held a picnic at the Amish Acres in Nappanee on Thursday, July 9. DISTINGUISHED RATING RECEIVED Five area residents were placed on the distinguished rating list for the spring semester at Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana. To qualify for distinguished rating, a student must have a grade index of at least 5.5 (B plus) out of a possible 6.0 (A) in at least 11 hours of academic credit and have no grade below C (points).
