Work Begins On New Wilcox Supermarket Work ha.s started on a new supermarket in Walkerton by Wileox, Inc., of North Liberty. The site on Michigan Street, in the 400 block, will be the scene of much activity for the next few weeks as the 9000 square foot building begins to take shape. The building will be of Inland Steel, similar to their present building in North Liberty except it will be larger. Central Fabricators, of Benton Harbor, Michigan, is the general contractor. The store will feature 30 foot of meat cases, an eight foot delicatessen case and eight foot five deck self service meat case. The modern store should be completed in the early fall months. This store will be an addition to their existing businesses as the North Liberty store will remain in operation as it presently is. Jack Buswell, former manager of the A & P Store in Walkerton, will manage the new store and Roy or John Wilcox will be in the Walkerton store most of the time. More details will follow as work progresses. Tri Kappa Holds July Meeting The Zeta Pi Chapter of Tri Kappa met at the home of Mrs. Robert DuWayne Whitmer on July 8. Mrs. Jerry Knepp reported the 4th of July float sponsored by Tri Kappa and Wells Aluminum Corporation won first place in the fraternal floats at the North Liberty parade and received an engraved plaque as their prize. The basketball throw held during the 4th of July activities was a great success and Mrs. John Peddycord chairman, announced a profit of almost SIOO.OO. Proceeds will be used for charity and culture. Mrs. Gary Shade, at the request of the elementary school principal, urged the chapter to collect their discarded children's shoes, boots, and coats for use by needy students this coming school year. Plans are in the making for another toy party in September and stationery is being ordered for the chapter to sell for the holiday season and to have availble year-round. Following the meeting Mr. George Blair demonstrated his Bestline produc ts. The chapter has voted to handle these products as a dealer to their own members using the commission to support their many projects. . Dessert was served by Mrs. Whitmer and Mrs. Guy Rizek. RECEIVES RECOGNITION William Frank Zlatos, 607 Harrison Street. Walkerton. has been placed on the spi.ng semester honor roll for above average performance at Indiana State University. Only students carrying 12 or more semester hours are eligible for recognition. Students with a scholarship index of over 3.75 out of a possible 4.0 are included in the distinguished honor roll. □ □ OBITUARIES □ □ Mrs. Hazel Chapman Mrs. Hazel Adelin Chapman. 72. of 711 Virginia Street, Walkerton, died at 8:45 pm. Thursday, July 9 in her home after suffering an apparent heart attack. She was born September 14, 1897, in Pontiac, Illinois, and she had lived in Walkerton 36 years, moving there from LaCrosse, Indiana. On January 16, 1919, in LaPorte, she was married to K. Clyde Chapman, who survives with two sons. De and Ray Chapman, both of Walkerton; five grandchildren; two brothers. Lloyd Lee of Brookfield, Illinois and Harry Lee of Da Porte; and two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Fielder of Kewanna, Indiana, and Mrs. Loretta Townsley of Laga-nsport. Indiana. Services were at 3:00 pm. Sunday in the United Methodist Church. Walkerton. Rev. Harold E. Williams, pastor, officiated Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. Mrs. Chapman was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Walkerton WSCS; Chapter 319, Order of Eastern Star; the Walkerton Women s Community Club, and Professional Women’s Club. Mrs. Floyd A. Bellinger Mrs. Myrtle E. Bellinger, 71, of 602 Ohio Street, Walkerton, died at 9:25 a m. Wednesday at E Street Division Hospital. LaPorte. after an extended illness. She had been a Stanley Products dealer for 18 years. Born February 24, 1899. In Grovertown, Indiana, she had lived in the Walkerton area all her life. On December 31. 1918. in Knox. Indiana she was married to Floyd A. Bellinger, who survives, with a son. Wayne of Walkerton; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Markle of North Liberty; six grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Dipert of Walkerton Services were at 2 p m. Saturday at the Nusbaum Funeral Home, Walkerton. Rev. Harold E. Williams, pastor of Walkerton United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Walkerton. Mrs. Bellinger was a member of the Johnson Twp. Demonstration Club and the Walkerton Home Economics Club. Mrs. Alice Fraser Mrs. Alice Fraser, 80, of 114 S. Mam Street, North Liberty, died at 11:15 pm. Friday at Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born February 15, 1890 in Liberty Twp. and lived there her entire life. Her husband. Hugh S., preceeded her in death. Surviving are a son. Marion R.. of North Liberty; three daughters, Mrs. John Hughes and Mrs. Stanley Koselak. both of North Liberty, and Mra I^o Bulla of Plymouth; 12 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Christ with Rev. Tom Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Eastlawn Cemetery. North Liberty. She was a member of the 23 Club in North Liberty; the Womens Missionary Society of the Church of Christ and a lite member of the church. Setnor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Setnor, North Liberty, Indiana. Miss Capes is a 1970 graduate of John Glenn High School and is employed with Wirecraft Co. in Lakeville. Mr. Setnor is a 1969 graudate of North Liberty High School and is presently employed with Gari-up Construction Co., of Gary, Indiana. A late fall wedding Is planned by the couple. Local Veteran On Honor Roll A Walkerton boy. Larry Barden. son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barden, Route 1. Walkerton, a Vietnam amputee veteran has and is receiving scholastic honors in the furthering of his education. In a recent announcement read in the Michigan City, Indiana’s News Dispatch Newspaper, Larry's name was listed as one of 59 students, listed to the honor roll at Purdue North Central College. Larry passed the semester with 3 As and 2 B's. He has attended I. U. Extension at South Bend and is a Tyner High School graduate. The bridegroom's sister. Miss Virginia Austin, Lakevlle, war the maid of honor. Attending a? bridesmaids were Miss Barbara Baele and Miss Judy Sipotz, New Carlisle, cousins of the bride, and Miss Martha Austin. Lakeville, also a sister of the bridegroom, Jerry Austin, Lakeville, was best man for his brother. Cousins of the bride, Joseph Baek and Eugene Toth, North Liberty, were ushers along with Alvin Kreske, Jr., the bridegroom’s brother-in-law. Mrs. Austin is a graduate of North Liberty High School, and Mr Austin attended La Ville High School. Following a wedding trip to the South, the newly weds will reside in Yuma, Ari zona, where the bridegroom is stationed with the Marines. Fall Schedule For Registration At Ancilla The admissions office at Ancilla College announces that registration for fall courses should be completed by July 23. Present students enrolled at AC have already taken advantage of early registration in order to be assured of enrollment in classes of their choice. Other prospective students who wish to take courses this fall are urged to register on July 23. The registrar's office will be open from 9-12 a.m.; 2-5 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. EDT. New courses being offered for the first time at AC include: Introduction to Mass Communication. a journalism course, and Business Writing, a course specially geared for and very helpful to secretaries and business personnel. Both courses are scheduled for the evening. Courses to be offered in the morning include World Civilization. American History. Calculus I, Studies in Literature, literary Types-Drama, and Biological Concepts. Biological Concepts is also being offered in the evening session. Early afternoon courses include Inorganic Chemistry, Art Appreciation. the English Dmguage, Music Appreciation. Speech. Introduction to Sociology, and Human Growth Learning Physical Geography, Astronomy, Economics I, Painting, Math Concepts, Accounting I, Business Writing, Spanish (Intermediate I), Introduction to Mass Communication, and American National Government are courses scheduled for the late afternoon and evening. Anyone desiring to register for credit courses should have official transcript of his high school credits sent to the Registrar before registration. John Harding Killed In Motorcycle Crash John C. Harding, Is. pf 832 Notre Dame Avenue, South Bend, died in Memorial Hospital at 9:25 p.m. on Saturday, an hour after he was injured in a motorcycle accident on Indiana 4. a half mile east of North Liberty. Police say that Harding was going east on Ind. 4. when his motorcycle went out of control and struck an embankment, throwing him against a .sign post He died of severe head and chest injuries. He had been stopped by the North Liberty police and warned about his driving habits shortly before the accident. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the A. M. Manuel Funeral Home, North Liberty, with Rev. Raymond J. Balzer, pastor of St. Jude's Catholic Chun h officiating. Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Harding was the son of aitist Edward Harding, owner of Harding Graphic Arts. He was an employee of the Robert Foegley Planting and Design Contractors, South Bend. Born July 13, 1951 in South Bend, he had lived most of his life in the North Liberty area and graduated from North Liberty High S< hool in 1969. In addition to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Harding. 64290 Orange Road, North Liberty, he is survived by a brother, Brett; and three sisters, Jacqueline, Michelle and Chantelle, all at home; a paternal grandmother, Mrs. Harold Harding of North Liberty; and maternal grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Karel Van Goey of South Bend. Miss Franklin Appointed To Grand Office Miss Deborah Franklin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Frank-* lin of 201 North Lafayette Street in North Liberty, was appointed Grand Confidential Observer at the 30th session of the Grand Assembly of the International Order of the Rainbow for Gills, held July 2-5 in Evansville, Indiana. Those that attended were: Mrs. Franklin, pro-tem for Mother Advisor; Deborah Franklin. Worthy Advisor: Tammy Osborn; Susie Wilcox; Janice Wagner, Janet Shupert; Lu Seiner; and Ruth Ann Newcomer. At the regular meeeting of the Rainbow Girls on Monday, July 6, Lee Seiner and Kathy Kane were initiated into the organization. After the initiation a song and escort of items that were reminders of the girls’ stay in Evansville were presented tQ Deborah Franklin in honor of the Grand Office she received. Refreshments were served in the social loom after the meeting. LIBERTY TOWNSHIP . H x CLUB PICNIC The annual picnic of the Liberty Township Home Extension Club was held at the home of Mrs. Arthur Kime, Thursday. June 2. Mrs. Kenneth Reed was the assisting hostess. A carry-in meal was served noon for the eighteen aduua and nine children. The group enjoyed swimming and games during the afternoon. Guests were Mrs. Claude Shoemaker, Mrs Dean Holderread and Mrs. James Shoue, Mrs. Wesley Pavey is planning a trip for the September meeting Details will be given later.
