Agape Prayer Group in library of new church building. . i Methodists Observe Memorial Sunday This coming Sunday the congregation of the local United Methodist Church will observe Memorial Sunday to pay respect to deceased members and loved ones. There will be the reading of the names of deceased church members who have passed away during the past year. Displayed for the first time will be the new custom made memorial stand and book of remembrance. The Chancel Choir under yie direction of Mrs. Sharon Klinedinst will present a special anthem. The pastor's sermon topic is Measurement and Fulfillment. The Committee on Memorials of the Church consists of Russell Rhine, chairman, Mrs. Dorothy Hostetler, secretary; Mrs. Patricia Jacob, Mrs Russell Rhine, Mr. and Mrs David Lawrence, Mr. Michael Corbett, and Mr. Charles Cripe. The worship services this Sunday morning will be conducted at 8:30 and 11:00 o'clock. The church school session will convene at 9:45. Registration Cards Now Available United Vacation Bible School registration cards are now availabel at the Sunday School classes ot the United Methodist and Presbyterian Churches. Children may also register prior to the Kiddies Parade. All children who will be attending the United Vacation Bible School should bring noisemakers and meet 30 minutes before parade time at the Illinois Street Methodist Church. Special honors will be given to all children who will be attending United Vacation Bible School. Remember the time and place of the United Vacation Bible School is June 8-19 from 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church. WESLEYAN SERVICE GUILD Mrs. Paul L. Roelke of South Bend and Mrs. Loren R. Goode of Walkerton, President and vice-president of the Souht Bend District Women's Society of Christian Service were among the 104 from the North Indiana Conference aboard the chartered plane from Purdue Airlines who flew' to Houston, Texas to attend the 1970 Assembly of the Women's Society of Christian Service and Wesleyan Service Guild May 7-10. An estimated 10,000 United Methodist Women from all 50 states and overseas attended the assembly, the theme being "Choose Life.” The Assembly brought United Methodist women together for inspiration, study, discussion and fellowship, and to focus attention on their work in missions, Christian social relations and other areas of church life and work. The Women’s Society of Christian Service and the Wesleyan Service Guild are the women’s organizations of the United Methodist Church. The women attending the Assembly are among 1,800,000 members of the Society and Guild in 38,000 local unites. The 1970 Assembly was the first to be held since the 1968 union of the former Methodist Church and the former Evangelical Church and the merger of their women's organizations. During the last 30 years, Women’s Society and Guild members have given more than S3OO, 000,000 through their organizations to missions and related Christian causes at home and overseas. Emphases in the Society and Guild program encompass missions, Christian social relations (including such areas as peace, racial justice, welfare rights, and minority economic development), spritiial growth, ecumenical relations, leadership development, and mission education and interpretation. The Assembly was sponsored by the Women s Division of the United Methodist Board of Missions, which is the national po-licy-making body for the Society and Guild. Mrs. Wayne W. Harrington, Omaha, Nebraka, is president of the Women’s Division Among the 1970 Assembly highlights: an address by Mrs. Theodire O. Wedel, Washington, D. C., president of the National Council of Churches; an address by Miss Theressa Hoover, New Yoik, associate genei%l secretary of the Womens Division; an address by Mrs. Harrington; a panel on "An Ordered Society VN ith Justice;” special worship experiences prepared by the Rev. Dr. Wayne R. erton Chapter meeting, Tuesday evening, May 19. Wprthy Matron, Mrs. Robert King announced several dates pertaining to the chapter in the near future. A reception honoring Mrs. Maynard Aldefer, Grand Represntative to Arizona will be given by her chapter in Bremen June 5. Visiting matron and patron of district 20 will attend a meeting in South Bend, Juno 10 honoring Mrs. Cara Lynn Tucker, newly appointed District Deputy, with South Bend, chaptei 2 as host. A committee was appointed tc serve the Walkerton Alumn' Banquet at the John Glenn High School, June 13. The officers conducted a memorial service for members deceased this past year. Protems serving in the officers line were Mrs. Edward Peterson, chaplain; Mrs. Alfred Drews, Martha; Donald Wolfenberger, warder; and James Verkier, sentinel. Spring garden flowers decorated the tables in the dining room during the social hour Mrs. Leonard Beaty and Mrs Orville Klinedinst were hostesses. OREGON TWP HOME EC GROUP MEETS The Oregon Township Home Ec. Group met at the home of Mrs. M. Gerry on Tuesday, May 12. A pot luck luncheon was served with some very delicious dishes.. The grace and devotion were given by Mrs. Glen MacArthur for the day. The group was surprised to see one of the members who has been unable to attend due to ill health in the family and that was Mrs. John Taylor. Following the luncheon, the meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. William Mi< halski. The salute to the Flag, club creed, devotions and roll call follwed. It was answered by a thing between mothers and members. Song of the month was sung and a piano was used to hep with the vocal harmony. The selling project of the club was a huge success and the group sold out before the May meeting. A sizable amount was given to the building at the fair. A bus trip is planned for June 24 and if any of the members are interested you should contact the president before June 15. A few seats are still available. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Hortence Moorman on June 9 at 1 p.m. A few’ demonstrations will be given by the Flippers 4-H group under the direction of Mrs. Fred Cook. The gift for June will be provided by Mrs. Gerry. The hostess prize was won by Mrs. Flaherty and the club prize was won by Mrs. Michalski. which she shared with the group.
