Hewitts Attend Convocation In Washington DC Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hewitt Route 3. Koontz Lake, Walker ton, Indiana, flew to Washington. D. C. aboard a military ail craft from Glen View Naval Air Base, Friday, May 1, 1970. to at tend the convocation of families for the next of kin to our Mis-sing-In-Action and Prisoners-of War, held in South East Asia. Fairchild Hiller, had a buffet dinner in Rayburn Hall for ths families on Friday evening before the convocation in Constitution Hall. More than 3,000 persons attended the convocation, several of our senators spoke including Barry Goldwater, Sen. Dale and Sen. Griffin. Mrs. James B. Stockdale, wife of the highest ranking prisoner held in North Vietnam. Mr. H. Ross Perot of Dallas, Texas gave a speech that was most inspiring, ‘‘United We Stand.’’ This man has done more for our prisoners and their families than any other private citizen in America. Frishman, and Petty Officer Douglas B. Hegdahl, former POW’s both spoke on their "Hope for Freedom." Vice President Agnew was the last speaker of the evening. He spoke in "Faith in America and the American people.” Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Hewitt met with Capt. Wallace and MajHastings in the naval annex building to view a film that contained the pictures that were in the February issue of Good Housekeeping and May sth issue of Look magazine. As it turned out these pictures were not of Sgt. Samuel E. Hewitt, but of Lieut. Col. A. E. Runyan who was shot down over North Vietnam in June 1965 His wife received her first letter from him last week. It seems more and more families are receiving mail. At the division he will be chairman of the 1970 Whirlpool Family Picnic and is serving or. the TIP Committee. He is active in the division's golf .cague also. Vanßuskirk and his wife Betty, formerly Betty Harris, daughter ot Mrs. Howard Harris, are New Castle natives and now reside at Koontz Like near Walkerton. They have two children, Jeff, seven, and Julie, three. In Walkerton, lie is a member of the Lions Club and has served on its board of directors for three years. He previously was active in the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce. NL Rainbow North Liberty Rainbow Assembly 52 held a reception for Debbie Franklin, Grand Ambassador of Good Will on Saturday, May 2 at the Masonic Temple in North Liberty. The guests were wclcmed by Kathey Springman, worthy advisior and Mrs. Marie Olson, mother advisor. Patty Springman, dull leader, escorted Debbie to the East. A song with the appropriate words to the tune of Windy was sung to her by Cindy Norris, she then went through an escort that presented her with a tote bag and small items she will need to go to Grand Assembly She was presented with a corsage of yellow daisies.
