BE AWARE OF THE LAW
The calendar is rolling around at a rapid pace and once again Can easily see that the end of school is near and summer vacations approach. This brings to mind several things, but one most evident, that being summer work for many, many high school and college students. Many areas have planned prerams to help the students of both high school and college find summer work. This is a fine thing as a student wants to work is usually a good part time employee. However, "a warning must be given, especially to employers, and should also be understood by the youths themselves. Many jobs f ill under the Child

Voice Os The People Dear Walkerton. What a week this has been! First, President Nixon came on television and told us that we are now attacking the neutral country of Cambodia. Secondly, two fires here on campus caused more than SIO,OOO damage tc the ROTC building. Then, Tuesday we heard news of 4 students shot to death by National Guard troops at Kent State University in Ohio. Wow! Maybe we al) need to take time to sit back and ask ourselves what is going on. As a student of draftabk age and a lottery number that has already been reached by most draft boards, I have to bo concerned with the U. S.involvement in southeast Asia. As a participant in student meetings to discuss these things, maybe I have to be concerned with teat gas, the National Guard, am’ bullets, too. Seeing FBI agent:* questioning men in my fraternity house and standing in the background at student meetings and demonstrations makes all of these things very real to me. My reason in writing this letter is to help make you aware. I am very concerned with the state of our nation. I don't hate it, I love it, but I do dislike some of the things that are happening within it now. We all can take postive action to correct the wrongs I include in these wrongs not only Southeast Asia involvement and National Guard action, but violence on the part of students in throwing rocks and burning buildings. We can't solve the wrongs by resorting to what we re against - violence. A positive step we can take Is to write our senators and congressman. Address the letter to them at: Senate or House Office Building. Washington, D. C. The following is a sample letter published in a student newletter: Dear— Through much deliberation forced on me by recent actions in Cambodia. Kent State and our nation’s capitol. I am writing to encourage you to support the McGovern - Hatfield Amendment to the Procurerheht Authorization Bill in the Senate. 5605. This bill essentially states that

Drivin’ your own car can be a heap of fun but it carries a big responsibility as a citizen, too. Kids drive kiddie cars. If you’re big enough to have a license and drive a car, then you gotta be big enough to think and act mature. That’s no toy you’re drivin’. It’s two tons of unthinkin’ metal. It’s somethin’ like one of those computers. You gotta program it. You gotta give it the information—when to start, stop, turn. A car can't think. That’s up to you. । Racin’ another car at a traffic fight is kid’s stuff. It’s like a baby throwin a tantrum—“my toy's better'n your toy.” , Drag racin’s a great sport but it ought to be done at the drag strip under safe iule., and regulations. That's where the professionals go. , Ya’ll dihe careful now, Leah! —m
all funds be cut for US military involvement in Indo-China after December 31, 1970 unless Congress declares war. This is to come to a vote within the next three weeks. Passage of the Bill, I feel, would: 1) Eliminate a prolonged war in Vietnam which now is extended nto Cambodia. 2) Force Congress to assume responsibility in this matter and either veto the present policy or declare war. 3) Help in the event of withdrawal following passage, to calm campus disorders, bring our troops back home, and bring a now divided country back together. Sincerley, Tom Mellin DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana I want to thank the Town of Walkerton and the many merchants and concerned citizens of the area of the P-L-J School Corporation for their time and effort that went into the After Prom Party. The kids really look forward to this each year and I really had a tremendous time. This was my first year to be able to go to the prom but the wait was worth it. My parents were a little concerned about me and my date being out all night, but when they knew that we were being chaperoned well thej’ said it was OK. The gifts we/e very nice and I think that we are fortunate to have an area work together that can see the worth of putting on an affair like lost Friday and Saturday. Thank you aglan for a wonderful time. A Student
